Job description

Vision Engineer

The Vision Engineer will support a multi-phase project involving training, machine installation, and production support for vision inspection systems. This role requires strong hands-on experience with Cognex Vision Systems, including the In-Sight product suite and use of Assembly Plus. The vision process will ensure that part presence, part alignment, and related inspection checks are performed before and after the respective process steps.

The Vision Engineer may also be a Controls Engineer with strong Cognex experience, particularly in an industrial automation, manufacturing, or machine integration environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Support project phases including training in Hosur, India, machine installation in Houston, TX, and long-term production support.
  • Configure, troubleshoot, and support Cognex Vision Systems using the In-Sight product suite.
  • Use Assembly Plus within the Cognex environment to support vision inspection requirements.
  • Develop and validate vision inspection processes for part presence checks and part alignment checks.
  • Ensure vision inspections are performed before and after key process steps to confirm proper component placement, orientation, and process readiness.
  • Collaborate with automation, controls, mechanical, and production teams during machine installation, startup, commissioning, and production ramp-up.
  • Provide hands-on support for vision system setup, calibration, testing, debugging, and optimization.
  • Troubleshoot vision-related issues involving lighting, camera setup, image acquisition, inspection tools, alignment, and pass/fail logic.
  • Support ongoing production support activities, including root cause analysis, system adjustments, and continuous improvement.
  • Document vision system changes, inspection logic, troubleshooting steps, and production support activities as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Strong experience as a Vision Engineer, Controls Engineer, or automation professional supporting industrial vision systems.
  • Hands-on experience with Cognex Vision Systems is required.
  • Experience with the Cognex In-Sight product suite is required.
  • Experience using Assembly Plus in Cognex vision applications is strongly preferred.
  • Ability to support part presence inspection, part alignment inspection, and process verification before and after manufacturing steps.
  • Experience with machine installation, commissioning, startup support, and production support in a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills related to vision inspection systems, cameras, lighting, sensors, controls, and automation equipment.
  • Ability to work onsite during project phases in Hosur, India and Houston, TX.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering, controls, maintenance, quality, and production teams.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to support a long-term project assignment.
