Job description

About Electra

At Electra, we're building the EL9 — a nine-passenger, hybrid-electric aircraft that takes off and lands in 150 feet. Our Ultra Short technology unlocks thousands of new operating locations and enables what we call Direct Aviation: quiet, point-to-point regional travel that gets people from where they are to where they want to go, without the congestion of major airports or the noise of conventional aviation.

A global company, headquartered in Manassas, VA, Electra is backed by Lockheed Martin, Honeywell, and Safran, has filed for FAA Part 23 type certification, and carries 2,000+ intent to purchase from operators worldwide. We're a team of ~100 people moving fast toward first EL9 test flights in 2027 and certification by late 2029 or 2030. Every hire matters at this stage — and this role is no exception.

The Role

As our VP of Finance & Accounting, you'll serve as the senior finance leader responsible for all accounting and financial operations at a rapidly scaling aerospace manufacturing company. That means owning the controllership, building the financial infrastructure, and driving the ERP system work that is critical to our path to certification and commercialization.

This is a hands-on, high-ownership role. You'll report directly to the CEO, work closely with manufacturing, engineering, supply chain, and operations leadership, and build the financial foundation that supports Electra's growth from development-stage startup to certified aircraft manufacturer. You'll oversee accounting, FP&A, treasury, financial reporting, audit coordination, manufacturing finance, DCAA compliance, and international accounting - and you'll help lead the ERP system selection, implementation, and operation that is one of the company's most important near-term priorities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead all accounting, FP&A, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, audit, and financial reporting activities and analyses
  • Direct and improve the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP, tax, audit, and regulatory requirements
  • Build scalable finance infrastructure, reporting frameworks, and operational controls
  • Lead manufacturing finance and cost accounting functions supporting production ramp and commercialization activities
  • Oversee inventory accounting, standard costing, margin analysis, and operational performance metrics
  • Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and operations leadership
  • Support capital planning, tooling investments, facilities planning, and operational scaling initiatives
  • Drive process automation and finance systems optimization initiatives
  • Lead annual operating plans, forecasting processes, and long-range financial modeling
  • Develop KPI dashboards and financial analytics supporting executive decision-making
  • Support scenario planning, resource allocation, and operational planning initiatives
  • Manage relationships with auditors, tax advisors, banks, and external financial partners
  • Oversee worldwide tax compliance and international accounting operations
  • Support DCAA accounting and government contract compliance activities
  • Ensure strong internal controls and scalable financial governance processes
  • Lead and develop accounting, payroll, FP&A, and finance personnel
  • Build scalable finance organizational capabilities during rapid company growth
  • Foster strong cross-functional relationships and operational partnership across the organization
  • Establish a culture of accountability, collaboration, and operational excellence

What You Bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field
  • CPA required
  • 15+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience
  • Significant experience in aerospace, aviation, manufacturing, defense, or similarly complex operational industries
  • Strong technical accounting, manufacturing finance, and FP&A expertise
  • Experience supporting rapid growth and operational scaling
  • Hands-on experience with ERP system selection, implementation, and/or operation - ideally all three phases
  • Strong understanding of cost accounting, inventory accounting, and operational finance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and executive presentation skills

Bonus Points

  • MBA
  • Experience with venture-backed or growth-stage organizations
  • Prior DCAA compliance and government contract accounting experience
  • Experience with international subsidiaries and intercompany accounting
  • Experience with Unanet, SAP Hana, Netsuite, or IFS
  • Aerospace manufacturing environment experience
