Peoples Gas is hiring an Energy Portfolio Analyst / Natural Gas Analyst to support natural gas forecasting, energy market analysis, and portfolio optimization across our utility operations.

This role combines energy analytics, demand forecasting, trading support, and data modeling to help drive critical business decisions that impact energy reliability, affordability, and growth.

Multiple openings - candidates will be aligned to Level I, II, or Senior based on experience

What You'll Do (Across All Levels)
  • Analyze natural gas supply, demand forecasting, and portfolio performance
  • Build and maintain energy forecasting models (load, weather, demand trends)
  • Support energy trading strategy and daily market analysis
  • Evaluate gas supply contracts, pipeline capacity, storage, and pricing indices
  • Develop data-driven insights to optimize the gas portfolio
  • Partner cross-functionally with engineering, business planning, and operations
  • Contribute to Integrated Resource Planning (IRP) and long-term energy strategy

Role Breakdown by Level
Level I - Energy Analyst (Entry Level)

Best for: Early-career candidates launching into energy analytics, data analysis, or forecasting

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform analysis on natural gas markets, supply contracts, and pipeline assets
  • Maintain forecasting models (load profiles, weather impacts, customer growth)
  • Support monthly portfolio reporting and daily trading insights
  • Analyze data using Excel, databases, and basic modeling techniques
  • Participate in trading calls and energy market discussions
Qualifications
  • 1+ year experience in data analysis, modeling, or forecasting
  • Bachelor's in Economics, Engineering, Math, Statistics, or related
  • Skills in Excel (pivot tables, lookups), data analysis, and reporting

Nice to have: SQL, VBA, or statistical modeling exposure

Level II - Energy Portfolio Analyst

Best for: Experienced analysts with forecasting, modeling, and cross-functional experience

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead demand forecasting and energy modeling efforts
  • Support development of the Integrated Resource Plan (IRP)
  • Analyze energy markets, pipeline tariffs, and gas supply economics
  • Build advanced portfolio and forecasting models
  • Support energy trading strategies with market insights
  • Coordinate data and analytics across business units
Qualifications
  • 3+ years in energy analytics, forecasting, or modeling
  • Strong experience with Excel modeling, VBA, or SQL

Senior Energy Portfolio Analyst

Incident Response Assignment

Our community relies on Peoples Gas to respond swiftly and effectively to all types of incidents, including but not limited to major storm events (e.g., extreme cold, tropical storms, hurricanes), gas leaks, equipment failures, environmental hazards, and other emergencies that may impact public safety or service continuity.

Peoples Gas depends on each team member to fulfill their primary and/or alternate roles and responsibilities during such incidents. As a Team Member of Peoples Gas, you will be assigned an Incident Response Assignment, receive training related to your role, and may participate in mock drills or exercises simulating various emergency scenarios
