Job description

SUNY Upstate Medical University Hospital strives to provide comprehensive, seamless and innovative patient and family centered care. Our PHARMACY TECHNICIANS play a vital role on the care team in providing patients with the therapies needed in the right place and at the right time. Our mission is clear.

We are adding to our Pharmacy Technician team to ensure that our patients receive the care they need around the clock. Can you help us? Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Prepare, store and maintain medication inventory and use that inventory to fill patient specific orders.

  • Monitor and manage automated dispensing cabinets, ensuring timely and accurate refill of medications.

  • Accurately and efficiently completes medication histories.

  • Prepares IV admixtures, hazardous and non-hazardous, under the direct supervision of a pharmacist.

  • Assist the Pharmacist with monitoring and quality assurance reports.

  • Collaborate with healthcare team to maintain accurate inventory and prevent shortages.

  • Represent yourself and SUNY Upstate Medical University in a positive manner focusing on our Core Values which Drive Innovation & Discovery, Respect People, Serve our Community, Value Integrity, and embrace Diversity and Inclusion.

  • These roles will require you to be on your feet extensively as well as some occasional lifting of up to 30lbs.

How can you become a PHARMACY TECHNICIAN at SUNY Upstate? It’s easy! You can qualify for this important role several ways:

  • If you have a NYS pharmacy technician license and National Pharmacy Technician Certification, OR have National Pharmacy Technician Certification plus 6 months of pharmacy technician experience and be able to obtain your NYS pharmacy technician license within 6 months, OR have 1 year pharmacy technician experience, OR successful completion of a military or other accredited pharmacy technician training program, OR by having your Associates Degree OR NYS licensed/registered LPN

  • You will be required to receive the National Pharmacy Technician Certification within 18 months of hire and NYS pharmacy technician license within 6 months of national certification
