A UPS Owner Operator is an independent contractor who owns and operates their own delivery vehicle while partnering with UPS to transport packages. Unlike company drivers, owner operators manage their own expenses, such as fuel, maintenance, and insurance. They have more control over their schedules and routes but must meet UPS’s delivery standards and contract requirements. This role can offer higher earning potential compared to company drivers, but it also comes with additional responsibilities and costs.
UPS Owner Operators are responsible for safely transporting packages between distribution centers and customer locations while managing their own business operations. Typical duties include route planning, vehicle maintenance, handling shipping documentation, and ensuring timely deliveries in line with UPS standards. You’ll frequently communicate with dispatchers, customers, and warehouse staff to coordinate pickups and drop-offs. Adapting to changing delivery schedules and maintaining excellent customer service are also central to the role.
To thrive as a UPS Owner Operator, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), clean driving record, in-depth knowledge of logistics, and strong business management skills. The OpportunityJoin a respected industry leader specializing in open-shop commercial projects ranging from tenant fit-outs to large-scale interior/exterior packages. As an Estimator, you will play a critical role in the company's continued success, handling diverse bids for metal framing, drywall, and specialty exterior systems.
What You'll DoAccurate Estimating: Prepare competitive bids for projects ranging from small-scale renovations to comprehensive interior/exterior packages.
Technical Proficiency: Perform detailed digital takeoffs for metal stud framing, drywall, sheathing, and vapor barriers.
Project Collaboration: Support Project Managers on large bulletins, addenda, and change orders to ensure financial precision.
Business Development: Attend scope reviews and proactively pursue work; this role requires a professional who can "sell" the firm’s capabilities to GCs, not just crunch numbers.
Digital Mastery: Utilize On-Screen Takeoff (OST) and Quick Bid to produce high-level cost analyses.
Experience: 5–12+ years of commercial drywall estimating experience.
Market Knowledge: Preference for candidates with experience in the local Connecticut/Hartford market.
Software Skills: Mastery of On-Center Software (OST & Quick Bid) is required.
Stability: A proven track record of career longevity and professional reliability.
