Job description

MCS is hiring for a Service Electrician / UPS Systems Technician in Tampa, Florida. This is a full-time, permanent position with benefits. The Service Electrician / UPS Systems Technician must demonstrate the ability to read, interpret and execute drawings, schematics, blueprints, and electrical code specifications for commercial electrical equipment installations. The Service Electrician / UPS Systems Technician will require good communication skills and the ability to work well in a team setting. It is important that candidates keep abreast of industry trends and developments, as well as applicable industry regulations.
Typical duties include:
  • Perform initial assessments of UPS systems and establish maintenance baselines for all assigned equipment.
  • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance and comprehensive inspections on UPS systems, including electrical connections, breakers, wiring, controls, capacitors, contactors, inverter/rectifier components, and related infrastructure.
  • Conduct annual system testing, including load transfer testing, battery discharge testing, and Emergency Power Off (EPO) validation.
  • Diagnose and repair UPS system failures, alarms, and power quality issues to maintain operational reliability.
  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency service calls within required response timeframes and perform corrective maintenance as needed.
  • Perform battery inspections, testing, replacements, and lifecycle evaluations, including monitoring cell voltage, resistance, temperature, DC voltage, and ripple current.
  • Complete component replacements, system adjustments, and temporary power solutions to support uninterrupted operations.
  • Utilize monitoring platforms and work order systems to track alarms, system performance, battery health, environmental conditions, asset data, and service activities.
  • Generate detailed service reports documenting inspections, testing results, system conditions, completed repairs, and recommended corrective actions.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, preventative maintenance documentation, and compliance reporting to support audit readiness and environmental regulations.
Required:
Educational Requirements: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Certification Requirements: Journeyman's License preferred
Experience Requirements:
  • 5+ years of experience in:
    • Electrical systems (commercial/industrial)
    • UPS systems, power distribution, or critical power environments
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • 1-phase and 3-phase electrical systems
    • Battery systems (VRLA, lithium-ion preferred)
    • Electrical testing equipment and diagnostics
  • Ability to read and interpret:

  • This position may require the operation of motor vehicles as an essential job function. Candidates must possess a valid driver's license and a clean driving record. The ability to operate company vehicles safely and responsibly is crucial. Employees may be subject to periodic motor vehicle record checks, and any discrepancies may impact eligibility for the position.
