Job description

Perform a variety of minor repairs and preventive maintenance services on motor vehicles. Performs minor repairs such as: check and replace batteries, rotate, repair, and replace tires, wash, polish and clean interiors and exteriors of vehicles. Drain, flush and replace engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils. Performs tune ups on internal combustion engines. Clean and replace oil and air filters. Inspects, repairs and adjusts brakes, replace windshield wipers, and similar minor parts. Assists mechanics on major overhaul jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts. Repairs components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, electrical wiring and other items. Maintain tools and equipment, and clean work areas. Transports vehicles to and from outside repair shops as directed.

Responsibilities
  • Performs engine tune ups on internal combustion engines.
  • Check and replace batteries, rotate, repair and replace tires, and wash, polish, and clean interiors and exteriors of vehicles, replace oil filters, and clean and replace air filters.
  • Performs basic internal combustion engine troubleshooting and diagnosis.
  • Drain, flush, and replace engine, transmission, and differential grease and oils. Check, clean, calibrate, replace spark plugs, and small engine repair.
  • Perform platform battery exchange as required.
  • Inspect, repair and adjust brakes, replace windshield wipers, and similar minor parts.
  • Assist on major overhaul jobs by dissembling and cleaning parts, repairing components such as generators and water pumps, and replacing thermostats, points, electrical wiring and other items.
  • Maintain tools and clean equipment and work areas.
  • Properly dispose of filters, oils and HazMat.
  • Be familiar with the Quality Control/Customer Satisfaction Plan (QC/CSP) requirements and perform QC/SCP actions as required.
  • Transports vehicles/equipment to and from repair facilities.
  • May be required to participate in on-call schedule.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum Education: High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Minimum 1-year related experience in the automotive parts field.
  • Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:
    • Knowledge of the practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the motor vehicle mechanic trade.
    • Knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems of motor vehicles.
    • Knowledge of the hazards and standard safety precautions of the trade.
    • Skill in the use of tools and in the operation of equipment employed in motor vehicle repair.
    • Ability to keep records.
    • Ability to work from specifications and oral written instructions.
    • Ability to use basic diagnostic tools such as test lights and multi-meters.
    • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
    • Basic computer skills.
  • Licenses and Certifications:
    • Valid Class C California Driver License.
    • California Class A Driver's License preferred.
  • Training Requirements:
    • Equipment Operation and Maintenance.
    • Hazard Communication.
    • Oil Pollution, Oil Recycling.
    • Compressed Gas Cylinders.
    • Ozone Depleting Substances.
