A UPS Diesel Mechanic is responsible for maintaining and repairing diesel-powered vehicles, including delivery trucks and tractors, to ensure they operate safely and efficiently. UPS Diesel Mechanics play a crucial role in keeping the company’s fleet operational and minimizing downtime.
As a UPS Diesel Mechanic, your day-to-day responsibilities include performing scheduled maintenance, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical issues on diesel trucks, and conducting safety inspections. You will use specialized diagnostic tools and work closely with a team of mechanics and supervisors to ensure vehicles meet company and federal safety standards. The role often involves troubleshooting urgent problems to minimize vehicle downtime and help UPS meet delivery commitments. This position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks in a time-sensitive setting, making it ideal for those who thrive in a fast-paced, hands-on environment.
To thrive as a UPS Diesel Mechanic, you need strong diagnostic, repair, and maintenance skills specific to diesel engines, along with a high school diploma or technical certification in diesel mechanics. Familiarity with diagnostic software, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, and possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ASE certification are often required. Attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and good communication skills help mechanics excel in fast-paced, team-oriented environments. Commercial Fleet Maintenance: Perform routine preventive maintenance, oil changes, brake inspections, and tune-ups on our commercial fleet of diesel trucks.
Master Troubleshooter: Diagnose and repair diesel engines, air brakes, electrical systems, suspensions, transmissions, and emission control systems.
Preventative Safety: Conduct safety inspections to identify potential mechanical issues before they turn into road delays or safety hazards.

Tools of the Trade: Ownership of basic mechanic hand tools (specialty tools provided in-shop).
Physical Capability: Ability to frequently lift, push, or pull up to 100 lbs and work actively in a bustling repair shop environment.
CDL Advantage: A valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is a plus for test-driving fleet vehicles!
