Description
The YMCA Westside Silver Fins is year round USA Swim Team designed to offer young athletes a challenging path of self-discovery through the vehicle of sport - providing an opportunity to strengthen spirit, mind and body. Keeping in line with the YMCA's four core values, YWSF swimmers and their families are expected to be caring, honest, respectful and responsible, exemplifying the ideals set forth by the YMCA's founders.
The YMCA Westside Silver Fins are looking for an enthusiastic, fun, outgoing individual to fill the role of a Substitute Assistant Coach. The Substitute Assistant Coach will be responsible for filling in when the main coach for a particular group is away or absent. Responsibilities will include, working with other members of the YWSF coaching staff, season plans for our various programs (in water and dry-land training), and attending swim meets/team functions. We are looking for individuals who already have all USA Swimming Coaching certifications or are willing to become USA Swimming Coach certified and with previous swim coaching experience.
Weekend availability is a must due to swim meet schedules along with a means to travel (most meets are in Phoenix)
RESPONSIBILITIES OF A SWIM TEAM COACH:
  • Spend your days by the pool.
  • Have fun coaching young swim team participants at meets and practices.
  • Prepare for practices to meet the needs of levels being coached.
  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with swimmers and parents; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.
  • Serves as a role model to participants while creating positive last memories.

REQUIREMENTS TO BE A SWIM TEAM COACH:
  • Minimum age of 18.
  • A passion for teaching others with demonstrated swim coach skills in accordance with the YMCA standards.
  • One or more years of experience swimming in or coaching for competitive swim teams.
  • A friendly, enthusiastic attitude.
  • Observant, safety conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in an emergency.
