Legislative Auditor: TennCare
Location: Nashville, Tennessee

Role Snapshot
The Legislative Auditor in the Division of Health Provider Review plays an important role in supporting accountability and transparency within TennCare, Tennessee’s Medicaid program. This position performs examinations and desk reviews of participating providers to ensure accuracy, compliance, and the appropriate use of state and federal resources.

What You'll Do
• Conduct examinations and desk reviews of TennCare provider financial and statistical data to ensure accuracy and compliance.
• Analyze cost reports, claims data, and supporting documentation for providers participating in the TennCare program.
• Prepare clear, concise, and well-supported working papers that meet auditing standards and best practices.
• Assist with development of tools to organize, track, and analyze information.
• Perform data analysis to identify trends, inconsistencies, and issues that support audit conclusions and findings.
• Communicate results and relevant information clearly to internal leadership, TennCare, and other stakeholders.
• Collaborate with team members and support special projects such as rate computation and analysis, provider cost settlements, and reviews of Managed Care Contractors.
What We’re Looking For
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 24 semester hours in accounting
• Ability to learn quickly, pay close attention to detail, think critically, problem solve, and produce high-quality work
• Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and collaboratively
• Good judgment and professionalism in interactions with auditees and coworkers
Preferred:
• Completed coursework or experience in data analytics
• Progress toward or interest in obtaining the CPA license (30 semester hours in accounting), which is strongly encouraged for advancement
Logistics
• Travel: Seasonal travel may be required. Overnight stays are generally limited to Monday–Wednesday evenings based on auditee availability.
