Job Description

Background

NBCUniversal Media Group is looking for a Manager of Content Consumer Insights to join our team.

This individual will be responsible for designing, executing, and socializing custom primary quantitative and qualitative research. The role partners closely with content development, production, marketing, and performance and analytics teams to champion the voice of the viewer across a show’s lifecycle by representing the opinions, preferences and behaviors of audiences today.

In this role, you will focus primarily on Unscripted content, spanning genres including docuseries, competition reality, lifestyle, game shows, and documentaries, as well as franchises including The Real Housewives, Love Island, The Traitors, Below Deck, Summer House, The Voice, America’s Got Talent, and more.

Success requires not only expertise in data and analysis, but also a passion for unscripted content and a strong grasp of culture and the television landscape shaping what people watch and how they engage with entertainment today.

This position reports to the Senior Director, Content Consumer Insights.

Responsibilities

  • Manage end-to-end quantitative and qualitative research projects across unscripted content (including testing for pilots/episodes, marketing materials, early-stage concepts, and series performance), partnering with stakeholders to frame business questions and identify the most appropriate research approach.

  • Translate complex research findings into clear and compelling narrative-driven reports that bring insights to life, inspire creative leaders and support decision-making.

  • Serve as a trusted voice of the consumer, helping internal partners understand audience needs, motivations, and behaviors when making business decisions.

  • Integrate primary research insights with behavioral and performance data and industry trends to develop holistic narratives and recommendations.

  • Identify patterns and opportunities across studies, connecting learnings to broader content and cultural trends.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners on genre and landscape studies, situating NBCU's unscripted content within both the competitive environment and broader viewer behaviors and cultural shifts.

  • Manage research vendor partnerships to ensure best-in-class execution across methodologies, managing timelines, recruitment, survey programming, analysis and reporting.

  • Consult with internal partners, developing a deep understanding of their objectives, decision-making processes, and how insights can be most effectively applied.

  • Stay immersed in the evolving world of unscripted television and viewer behavior, tracking shifts in how people discover, sample, and commit to shows, as well as broader cultural conversations that shape reality content consumption.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in consumer insights.

  • Experience in the entertainment and/or streaming industries.

  • Strong foundation in custom research across quantitative and qualitative methodologies, including survey writing, data table review and analytical rigor.

Desired Characteristics

  • Deep passion for unscripted television, with strong familiarity with the unscripted landscape, content and conversations.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, translating data-driven insights into compelling narratives. Experience presenting insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders.

  • Highly analytical, able to connect dots across data sources and ''read between the lines” to understand not only what the data says, but what it means and why it matters.

  • Curious, proactive, and thoughtful in evaluating data, context, and alternative perspectives.

  • Strategic thinker who connects consumer insights to business decisions and opportunities.

  • Adept at balancing multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

  • Detail-oriented and committed to a high level of data accuracy.

Additional Requirements

  • Hybrid: This position currently has a hybrid schedule, which requires contributing from the office a minimum of four days per week. The Company reserves the right to change in-office requirements at any time.
  • This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
