What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an unscripted producer?

To thrive as an Unscripted Producer, you need strong storytelling abilities, production experience, and a solid understanding of reality or documentary formats, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with editing software (such as Adobe Premiere), budgeting tools, and production management systems is typically required. Resourcefulness, adaptability, and excellent interpersonal skills help you manage unpredictable situations and build rapport with on-screen talent and crew. Job description

Project Overview

THE ROOMMATE TEST is a half‑hour unscripted housing and roommate‑compatibility format centered on the 18–35 renter generation. In each self‑contained episode, one room seeker tours three shared homes with an on‑camera Housing Host. At the final reveal, the seeker chooses a house—and then the existing roommates reveal whether they choose that person back. Tagline: First they choose the house. Then the house chooses back.

The completed development package includes a format bible, sample episode, pitch materials and a three‑month follow‑up showing whether the match actually worked.

Responsibilities
  • Package and position the format
  • Develop a digital proof of concept
  • Identify and attach an on‑camera housing host or creator
  • Refine the budget and production plan
  • Approach appropriate production companies, platforms and buyers
Qualifications

The ideal candidate has experience in unscripted housing, lifestyle, relationship, social‑experiment or creator‑led programming. Existing production‑company, platform or talent relationships are preferred. This is a development‑stage partnership opportunity, not a salaried staff opening. There is currently no guaranteed upfront compensation. Credits, responsibilities, contingent compensation and any ownership participation would be negotiated in writing before substantive work begins.

Application Materials

To be considered, please provide:

  • Relevant unscripted or creator‑series credits
  • Links to produced work
  • Your specific interest in the project
  • A brief description of how you would approach the host attachment and proof of concept

A one‑sheet will be shared with qualified candidates. The complete format package will not be posted publicly.
