Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Morrisville, NC
Pay: $18.08 per hour
Schedule: Monday – Sunday (Two Days Off Vary), 12:00 PM – 8:30 PM
Job Summary:
The Baggage Handling System (BHS) Maintenance Assistant is responsible for supporting the operation and maintenance of the airport baggage handling system by responding to system faults, clearing jams, and assisting with basic preventative maintenance tasks. Working under minimal supervision, this role helps ensure the safe, efficient, and continuous operation of baggage handling equipment while maintaining compliance with all company safety, security, and operational standards.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to and assist in correcting fault conditions within the Baggage Handling System (BHS).
  • Clear jams and obstructions from baggage handling equipment to minimize operational disruptions.
  • Assist maintenance technicians with routine maintenance activities, including sweeping, cleaning, greasing, and general housekeeping.
  • Complete all required company safety training and comply with all safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Follow all airport security requirements, company policies, and operational procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while identifying and reporting potential hazards.
  • Communicate equipment issues and operational concerns to technicians and supervisors.
  • Support maintenance and operations teams with additional assignments as directed by management.
  • Use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and follow all workplace safety requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the efficient operation of the baggage handling system.
Required Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED).
  • Ability to work a flexible, non-traditional schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Basic computer skills, including the ability to access email and complete required online training.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an Airport Security Badge.
  • Ability to work safely around moving machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds frequently and more than 50 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, reach, bend, kneel, and perform physical tasks throughout the workday.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Previous experience working in an airport environment.
  • Experience supporting maintenance or mechanical operations.
  • Familiarity with baggage handling systems or conveyor equipment.
  • Experience working in industrial, manufacturing, logistics, or transportation environments.
