Job Title: Pathologists’ Assistant (Clinical Specialist)
Location: 10833 Le Conte Ave, Room A7-215A, Los Angeles, CA 90025
Duration: 1-Year Contract (Candidates interested in shorter assignments will also be considered)
Shift: Flexible schedule between 9:00 AM and 8:30 PM

Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief of Anatomic Pathology, Director of Operations (Anatomic Pathology), and/or Clinical Specialist Supervisor, the Pathologists’ Assistant provides technical and professional support to the Anatomic Pathology Department. The role is responsible for specimen examination, gross description and dissection, photography of specimens, frozen section assistance, and support of departmental administrative functions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform gross examination, description, and dissection of surgical pathology specimens.
  • Photograph pathology specimens as required.
  • Assist pathologists with frozen section procedures.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and specimen handling in compliance with laboratory standards.
  • Prepare, maintain, and update departmental protocols, procedures, reports, and data records.
  • Assist with quality assurance, instrument maintenance, and operational processes.
  • Support teaching, training, administrative, and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
  • Adhere to all institutional, regulatory, and laboratory safety standards.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working as a Pathologists’ Assistant.
  • Currently working in a Pathologists’ Assistant role with a stable employment history.
  • PA(ASCP) certification OR eligibility to obtain and successfully pass the PA(ASCP) certification examination within 12 months of hire.
Eligibility for PA(ASCP)

To be eligible for certification, candidates must have:

  1. A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
  2. Successful completion of a NAACLS-accredited Pathologists’ Assistant Program.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Active PA(ASCP) certification.
  • Experience in high-volume surgical pathology environments.
  • Strong understanding of anatomic pathology workflows and specimen processing.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

Note: Candidates do not need to be PA(ASCP) certified at the time of hire; however, they must be eligible for certification at the time of submission and obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
