Job description

JOB SUMMARY:

The Universal Banker serves as a key customer facing representative of the bank by providing exceptional service to customers while performing both teller and new accounts responsibilities. This position handles routine financial transactions, opens and services deposit accounts, identifies customer needs, and promotes bank products and services. The Universal Banker plays a vital role in building customer relationships and supporting the overall success of the branch.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Teller Functions

  • Process customer transactions accurately and efficiently, including deposits, withdrawals, transfers, loan payments, cashier's checks, and money orders.
  • Balance cash drawer and maintain proper cash levels throughout the day.
  • Assist with preparing and accepting FED currency shipments weekly.
  • Verify customer identification and ensure compliance with Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), anti-money laundering (AML), and bank policies.
  • Detect and report suspicious activities or fraudulent transactions.
  • Assist customers with account inquiries and routine account maintenance requests.
  • Ensure proper handling of negotiable instruments and cash items.
  • Maintain a professional appearance of the teller area and branch lobby.

New Accounts Functions

  • Open and service consumer and business deposit accounts, including checking, savings, money market accounts, CDs, and IRAs.
  • Assist customers with debit cards, online banking, mobile banking, direct deposit, and other electronic banking services.
  • Explain account features, fees, and benefits to customers.
  • Complete all required documentation and ensure compliance with CIP, BSA, OFAC, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Process account changes, closures, and maintenance requests.
  • Recommend appropriate bank products and services.

Customer Service & Sales

  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships through exceptional service.
  • Identify opportunities to cross-sell deposit products, loans, treasury services, and other bank offerings.
  • Refer customers to lenders, wealth management, and other bank specialists when appropriate.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.

General Responsibilities

  • Maintain knowledge of bank products, services, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all banking regulations and internal controls.
  • Participate in training programs and professional development opportunities.
  • Assist with branch operations and special projects as assigned.
  • Support team members and contribute to a positive branch environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Job Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Minimum one year of banking, customer service, retail, or cash handling experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of deposit products and banking regulations preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to accurately handle cash and perform basic mathematical calculations.
  • Proficient with computer systems and banking software.
