Job description

St. John Paul Academy is seeking a qualified Teacher - Generalist for grades 6 through 8 with an emphasis in Math. The primary responsibilities of the position is to instruct students to develop skills and ability to excel in all subject areas taught.  Contribute to the Catholic education program as a whole and to the growth of students academically and spiritually. 

Ministerial Character:

The Diocesan Bishop is the visible principle and foundation of unity in the particular Church (“the Diocese”) entrusted to him.  In a unique and visible way, he makes Christ's mission present and enduring as the Shepherd of the Christian Community.  In order to fulfill his mission, the Diocesan Bishop employs suitable, chosen collaborators, who are clerics, religious, and lay people.  He shares with them the apostolic mission and entrusts various responsibilities to them.

Each position employed in the Diocese of Corpus Christi helps to extend the ministry of the Diocesan Bishop in particular ways as outlined in the job duties and responsibilities.  Therefore, this position is closely connected to and assists the Diocesan Bishop in the performance of his ministry and thereby engages in ministry for the church.

Responsibilities:

The list below reflects the general details considered necessary to describe the primary functions of the job identified and shall not be construed as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the job.

  • As an integral part of ministry for the Church, this position will support and uphold the philosophy of Catholic ministry and the mission of the Diocese of Corpus Christi in both professional and personal life
  • Act as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church
  • Continuously grow in the ministry by participating in religious ceremonies, training sessions, and reflection activities as directed
  • Use of a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of students in academic growth  
  • Classroom management and instruct students to meet the needs at their levels to view growth
  • Work with other members of school staff to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of all students
  • Establish criteria for  students  to be familiar with expectations in the classroom; model the expectation and praise students who rise above it
  • Keep all information about individual students confidential and promote student growth emotionally and academically
  • Work with peer teacher collaboratively to attain growth and guidance of the program
  • Ensure all student expectations are clearly communicated to students and parents
  • Monitor and support student academic growth

  • Regular bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, turning, reaching, climbing, and balancing
  • Ability to maintain composure under duress
  • Ability to work inside and  outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); frequent exposure to noise; frequent districtwide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours; moderate exposure to vehicle fumes and work around moving vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors Degree 
  • College course work in Math (24) and Education (12) or Teaching Certificate in those areas 
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter 
  • Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with diocesan policies and procedures
  • Valid Texas driver’s license 
 
Special Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of teaching techniques and procedures 
  • Ability to instruct at high levels with rigor
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
