DESCRIPTION:
Join Unity Lab Services as a Team Leader managing operations at customer facilities. You'll guide a team of specialists delivering essential laboratory support services including inventory management, chemical handling, media preparation, glassware operations, and lab materials management. This leadership role involves supervising daily operations, developing team members, enhancing processes, and ensuring consistent service delivery.
In this role, you'll collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to meet service level agreements, track metrics, and identify growth opportunities. You'll implement standard operating procedures, conduct audits, manage compliance requirements, and exemplify our company's core values of Integrity, Intensity, Innovation and Involvement. This position offers the opportunity to contribute to scientific research while developing your leadership capabilities within our organization.

What will you do?  

We are seeking an energetic and enthusiastic individual with strong communication, leadership, technical and operational skills to join our growing Process Development team. 

This position is focused on service delivery excellence for Unity Lab Services (ULS). The position leads the daily supervision of a small team of customer site-based personnel, enabling the team to consistently deliver high levels of customer service. Includes oversight of service offerings: order/stockroom/dock management, procurement, material handling, chemical tracking, media/reagent preparation, and cell culture support operations. This role oversees personal who support manufacturing duties under the direct supervision of research staff and ULS management in a team environment. The candidate will routinely perform moderate to complex processes according to Standard Operating Procedures, operating guidelines, instructions, and departmental policies. Responsibilities include:

  • Effectively lead a diverse cross-functional team of on-site lab specialists. Responsible for complete employee lifecycle management: new hire selection, identification of training needs and solutions, coordinating development training, and employee performance evaluations.  

  • Assistance with production runs on a multi-kilo scale, Operation and process monitoring of reaction equipment, Equipment and parts assembly, disassembly, and cleaning.

  • Equipment maintenance and mechanical support for research equipment, including assisting with design and equipment modifications, development and execution of preventative maintenance schedules, review and upkeep of safe operating guidelines

  • Maintain good house keeping
  • Work in a team environment with scientific staff
  • Partner with Research staff and Environmental Health and Safety to ensure safe operations at all times.
  • Adhere to all customer cGMP SOP’s, maintain cGMP logs daily, maintain compliance with cGMP training, and archiving of GMP documents

  • Raw material inventory and consumables stocking and control using SAP inventory systems

  • Conduct site audits, and ensure completion of annual physical inventory 

  • Define new opportunities by actively seeking expansion of services within assigned areas. Provide capability review presentations, and act as a resource for the sales team and customer to identify savings and opportunities.  

  • Drive process improvement culture by supporting Practical Process Improvement (PPI) initiatives 

  • Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific at all times throughout customer locations, professionally and positively  

  • May perform other responsibilities as assigned by management  

Work hours are Monday-Friday 8-430pm. Weekend and holiday work is required on an as needed basis.
REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 2 years of leadership experience supervising teams in a laboratory or service environment
  • Preferred Fields of Study: scientific field, business, or related discipline
  • Experience in GMP/GLP regulated environments preferred
  • Strong project management and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated success in customer relationship management
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to establish processes, implement SOPs, and support continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of chemical handling, hazardous materials, and lab safety protocols
  • Strong communication and presentation abilities
  • Ability to work varied schedules including overtime
  • Skills to lead, coach and develop staff
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and make decisions effectively
  • Must adhere to PPE and safety requirements including lab coats, safety glasses, etc.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment 

  • Works primarily at customer sites, which may require independent work at the customer locations. Work areas may include spaces where chemical-based allergens are in use (such as penicillin, tetracycline, etc.) 

  • Depending on the area of the building, personal protective equipment must be worn, including lab coats, coveralls, hoods, facemasks, hairnets, safety gloves, steel-toe shoes (required for all colleagues), bump hats, and/or safety glasses. 

  • Regularly required to lift 30 - 40lbs, and up to 50lbs occasionally. 

  • Regularly required to stand, walk and conduct manual material handling (twisting, bending, reaching, lifting, etc.) for prolonged periods. 

  • Ability to work in environments with varied temperatures (cold rooms, outside, etc.)

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range estimated for this position based in Massachusetts is $59,400.00–$89,100.00.
