Unity Developer Contract information

What is a Unity developer contract?

A Unity Developer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based agreement where a developer is hired to work with Unity, a popular game development engine. Unity Developers create interactive content, games, simulations, and applications using Unity’s tools and scripting languages such as C#. As contract workers, they are typically brought on for specific projects or timeframes rather than full-time roles. This arrangement offers flexibility for both the developer and the hiring company, allowing expertise to be leveraged as needed. Contract Unity Developers may work remotely or onsite, depending on project requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Unity developer on a contract basis?

To thrive as a Unity Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in C#, experience with the Unity engine, and a solid understanding of 2D/3D game development principles, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), asset management tools, and sometimes certifications in Unity or similar platforms are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you effectively collaborate with teams and deliver projects on schedule. These skills and qualities are essential to consistently produce high-quality, performant applications while meeting client requirements and tight deadlines.

What are some common challenges faced by contract Unity developers, and how can they be addressed?

Contract Unity Developers often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to existing codebases, aligning with diverse team workflows, and managing tight project timelines. To succeed, it's important to have strong communication skills for collaborating with designers, artists, and other developers, as well as solid documentation practices to ensure smooth handovers. Staying proactive in understanding project requirements and leveraging version control systems can also help mitigate integration issues and support efficient teamwork.

What is the difference between Unity Developer Contract vs Unity Developer Full-Time?

AspectUnity Developer ContractUnity Developer Full-Time
CredentialsTypically requires a portfolio, relevant certifications, and experience with UnitySame as contract, often with additional benefits or ongoing employment credentials
Work EnvironmentProject-based, flexible hours, remote or on-siteSteady, full-time employment, usually on-site or hybrid
Employer & Industry UsageUsed by game studios, AR/VR companies, and tech firms for specific projectsCommon in larger companies and studios for ongoing development
Search & Comparison IntentSeeking short-term or freelance opportunitiesLooking for stable, long-term employment

In summary, a Unity Developer Contract is a temporary, project-based role ideal for freelancers or those seeking flexible work, while a Unity Developer Full-Time offers ongoing employment with benefits and stability. Both roles require similar skills and credentials but differ mainly in work structure and employment terms.

Job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

As a Senior Developer, Fullstack (AI & Data Platform), you will join a highly motivated and experienced team building agent-enabled applications and backend automation that turn catalogue and metadata into governed, production-quality software. Working alongside data engineering and governance partners, you will design services, tooling, and user-facing interfaces that make data discoverable, trustworthy, and easy to consume across the platform. We are looking for people who can bring a strong, consulting and solution-focused mindset and contribute to architectural decisions, best practices and get things done.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Develop backend automation that integrates multiple metadata sources and generates governed artifacts - for example, automatically producing a data contract for review, editing, and publication to the registry.
  • Design and build agent-enabled applications and workflows, including MCP servers and tools such as a data-contract generator or a data-readiness assessment utility.
  • Build user-facing interfaces for platform and discovery workflows.
  • Deliver production-quality services with sound API design, testing, and CI/CD practices.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • 6+ years of experience in software engineering with a strong focus on fullstack development.
  • Experience developing and optimizing code using AI-powered tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot to enhance productivity and code quality.
  • Software engineers who understand data-engineering principles and can transform catalogue and metadata output into working software.
  • Strong Python engineering skills, including API and service design (e.g., FastAPI), asynchronous programming, and schema validation (Pydantic / JSON Schema).
  • Understanding of Graph RAG data structures.
  • Experience with Neo4j, Supabase.
  • Proven track record in architecting agentic workflows and AI-driven solutions, incorporating deep integration with LLMs and sophisticated autonomous frameworks.
  • Proficiency in modern frontend frameworks, specifically React and Vue.js, as well as ES6 and TypeScript.
  • Experience designing, developing, and consuming RESTful APIs and microservices.
  • Experience with unit testing, integration testing, and modern DevOps practices (e.g., Git, CI/CD pipelines).
  • Experience with Cloud Computing and Serverless Architecture, preferably AWS.
  • Strong understanding of agile principles and methodologies.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience building MCP servers in addition to consuming them.
  • Familiarity with data governance and catalogue tooling and with data-contract standards.
  • Experience in a regulated or life-sciences environment.
TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE
  • Backend (primary): Python - FastAPI, Pydantic, asynchronous services.
  • Frontend: React, TypeScript, Next.js; Supabase (interfaces align with the platform's established internal tooling).
  • AI and agents: MCP (build and consume), large language model and agent frameworks, Snowflake Cortex and Genie, Neo4j.
  • Governance and catalogue: Collibra, Unity Catalogue, Horizon; YAML data contracts.
  • Infrastructure and data: Docker, AWS, PostgreSQL, Databricks, Snowflake, Supabase
WHO YOU ARE
  • You think about how to scale, automate and operate, not just how to build a solution to an immediate problem
  • You understand lean thinking
  • You set high standards for code quality, performance/scalability and security and seek continuous improvement
  • You have solid analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • You have a customer-first mindset and a devotion to customer service
  • You engage and build positive internal and external client relationships, while managing multiple initiatives, often with competing priorities
  • You have strong self-initiative, passion, interpersonal, oral and written communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work, influence and make an impact in a cross-functional environment with all levels of the organization
  • You are responsive and thrive in a fast-paced diverse high-performance environment with rapidly changing business needs
  • You actively seek out things outside your comfort zone with the ability to rapidly learn and take advantage of new concepts, business models, and technologies
  • You have prior experience in consulting
  • Prior experience and connections in the Life Sciences industry is preferred
