Unity Developer Contract information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Unity Developer on a contract basis, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Unity Developer on contract, you need strong proficiency in C#, experience with the Unity engine, and a solid understanding of 2D/3D game development principles, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with version control systems (like Git), asset management tools, and sometimes certifications in Unity or similar platforms are highly valued. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and time management skills help you effectively collaborate with teams and deliver projects on schedule. These skills and qualities are essential to consistently produce high-quality, performant applications while meeting client requirements and tight deadlines.

What are some common challenges faced by contract Unity Developers, and how can they be addressed?

Contract Unity Developers often encounter challenges such as quickly adapting to existing codebases, aligning with diverse team workflows, and managing tight project timelines. To succeed, it's important to have strong communication skills for collaborating with designers, artists, and other developers, as well as solid documentation practices to ensure smooth handovers. Staying proactive in understanding project requirements and leveraging version control systems can also help mitigate integration issues and support efficient teamwork.

What is a Unity Developer Contract?

A Unity Developer Contract refers to a temporary or project-based agreement where a developer is hired to work with Unity, a popular game development engine. Unity Developers create interactive content, games, simulations, and applications using Unity’s tools and scripting languages such as C#. As contract workers, they are typically brought on for specific projects or timeframes rather than full-time roles. This arrangement offers flexibility for both the developer and the hiring company, allowing expertise to be leveraged as needed. Contract Unity Developers may work remotely or onsite, depending on project requirements.

What is the difference between Unity Developer Contract vs Unity Developer Full-Time?

About Project X

Project X Ltd. drives success by focusing on building teams of incredibly talented and client-focused people, who love to problem solve and work on tough data problems. We reward hard work and forward-thinking with recognition and a supportive culture that celebrates success and wants to see you grow.

Our team members are trusted advisors to our clients and offer innovative solutions that solve complex data problems. Collaboration, creativity, data knowledge and experience run deep in our veins. We are passionate about building long-term relationships with our clients and staying true to our values. When adding new members to our team, we also look for people that are aligned to our values.

We are also passionate about our people. Hiring and developing people that seek challenges, like to jump in and learn new things, and are happy to lend a helping hand to a peer is what makes us successful.

We understand that it’s our people that make us great.

Role Summary
We are hiring a Unity Developer to support the implementation of a Proof of Concept (PoC) project with a Tier 1 telecom client. This initiative will bring to life a mobile AR-enabled inspection application that allows store managers to capture structured video walkthroughs. The video and metadata are then processed for AI-based compliance scoring.
The successful candidate will join our Innovation & Data team at Project X Ltd. to build the Unity front end, enabling device camera capture, tagging of in-video events, and integration with downstream processing engines.

Major Areas of Responsibility

  • Design and develop a Unity-based mobile application (iOS and Android) to support AR-guided video capture workflows.

  • Integrate device camera APIs to capture continuous walkthrough video footage.

  • Implement on-screen tagging functionality that timestamps and geolocates user taps/touches.

  • Ensure local video storage with reliable handoff to backend processing (via REST API or storage pass-through).

  • Work closely with the Project X team and client-side developers to ensure seamless integration.

  • Participate in technical design sessions and sprint stand-ups as part of a collaborative, agile delivery environment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other

  • 3+ years of experience developing Unity applications for mobile (AR experience preferred).

  • Experience with Unity video capture plugins and custom mobile UI development.

  • Solid understanding of device hardware access (camera, file system).

  • Familiarity with metadata tagging, geolocation services, and file export mechanisms.

  • Comfortable working in a PoC/rapid iteration context with weekly deliverables and feedback loops.

  • Experience in secure authentication flows (ideally integrating with enterprise SSO).

  • Ability to read technical architecture documents and align code structure accordingly.

Nice to Have:

  • Prior exposure to enterprise applications or integrations with AI/ML backend services.

  • Experience with augmented reality features in Unity (e.g., guiding users through physical spaces).

  • Familiarity with RESTful APIs, JSON metadata structures, and file handling between front end and backend systems.
