As a Mortgage Underwriter at Union Savings Bank, you will play a key role in evaluating loan applications and determining borrower eligibility based on creditworthiness, income, assets, and property evaluations. Your work ensures that all loans meet regulatory and internal policy standards while supporting responsible lending and risk management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate borrower credit reports, income documentation, debts, and assets to assess risk and loan eligibility.
  • Verify accuracy of all information provided in loan applications, including employment and income sources.
  • Review property appraisals and other collateral documentation to confirm loan-to-value ratios and ensure compliance with lending requirements.
  • Make informed underwriting decisions—approve, suspend, or deny loan applications—based on risk assessment and lending guidelines.
  • Complete thorough and accurate reviews of mortgage application packages.
  • Collaborate with loan officers, processors, brokers, and internal departments to resolve documentation issues or application discrepancies.
  • Escalate complex or high-risk applications to management when necessary.
Education & Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience in mortgage underwriting, banking, or financial services is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to assess both qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Solid understanding of Conventional loan and non-conforming guidelines
  • Working knowledge of federal mortgage regulations and compliance standards (e.g., RESPA, TILA).
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
