Job Title: Maintenance Mechanic

Job Description

The Maintenance Mechanic supports a high-speed manufacturing facility by maintaining, operating, and troubleshooting production and packaging equipment to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operations. This role works on either 1st or 2nd shift in a union environment and focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, adherence to GMP standards, and continuous improvement of equipment performance.

Responsibilities

• Operate, monitor, and perform minor troubleshooting on production and packaging equipment to achieve optimum performance.
• Diagnose and resolve technical problems on mechanical and electrical systems to minimize downtime and maintain production efficiency.
• Perform preventive maintenance on equipment according to established schedules and procedures to reduce unplanned failures.
• Maintain GMP standards and excellent housekeeping practices throughout the production and maintenance areas.
• Troubleshoot packaging equipment and processing machinery to identify root causes and implement effective repairs.
• Read and interpret schematics, blueprints, and technical documentation to perform accurate maintenance and repairs.
• Use a variety of hand tools and industrial maintenance equipment safely and effectively to complete assigned tasks.
• Support millwright activities, including installation, alignment, and repair of mechanical components in a manufacturing environment.
• Collaborate with production personnel to address equipment issues, improve performance, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform PLC troubleshooting at a basic level as needed to assist in identifying control-related issues.
• Follow all safety procedures and guidelines when working with mechanical equipment, moving parts, and electrical components.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and parts usage according to plant requirements and maintenance best practices.
• Navigate the production floor to inspect, service, and clean equipment, ensuring all machinery is operating within specifications.
• Participate in overtime as needed on Fridays and Saturdays to support production demands and maintenance needs.

Essential Skills

• High school diploma or GED.
• Approximately 5 years of maintenance or millwright experience in a high-speed manufacturing environment.
• Technical or trade school graduate or completion of an apprenticeship program in a relevant field.
• Knowledge and skills equivalent to at least two years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in industrial maintenance and manufacturing mechanics.
• Ability to troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair mechanical and electrical issues on production and packaging equipment.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting schematics and blueprints.
• Experience performing preventive maintenance on industrial equipment.
• Basic PLC troubleshooting skills.
• Skilled in the safe and effective use of hand tools and maintenance tools.
• Ability to work on 1st shift (4:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.) or 2nd shift (2:15 p.m. – 12:45 a.m.), Sunday through Thursday, with some Friday/Saturday overtime.
• Capability to work in a union environment where shift assignment is determined by contract and may change with schedule updates.

• Experience in a high-speed, unionized manufacturing or plant environment.
• Familiarity with GMP requirements and housekeeping standards in production facilities.
• Comfort working with mechanical equipment that has moving parts and complex assemblies.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with production and maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and quality.
• Willingness to adapt to schedule changes, such as a 3-2-3 rotation (three days on, two days off) as implemented in the future.

Work Environment

Work takes place in a plant environment on a production floor where temperatures may vary and dust particulates are present. The role involves prolonged standing and walking, as well as frequent bending, stooping, climbing, and crouching to access and service equipment. The Maintenance Mechanic regularly pushes, lifts, and pulls raw materials such as film, tin tie rolls, and valves weighing up to 60 pounds. The facility includes mechanical equipment with moving parts and exposure to high noise levels, dust, heat, cold, and fumes from chemicals used in flavorings. Employees must be comfortable working in this industrial setting while following all safety protocols and using appropriate personal protective equipment.

This is a Permanent position based out of LANDOVER, MD.

The pay range for this position is $63440.00 - $71760.00/yr.
