Union Middle School Nurse

Wise County Public Schools

Position Description

Qualifications:

  1. Hold a current LPN/RN license in the State of Virginia
  2. Current certification in CPR
  3. Have at least one year of clinical experience in a hospital setting, preference in Pediatrics
  4. Possess the ability to work well with students, parents, administration, staff, medical providers, and community
  5. A working knowledge of Special Education Services (procedures and law) and immunization requirements preferred

Performance Responsibilities:

  1. Responsible for the supervision of School Health Clinic when substituting for school nurses
  2. Responsible for administration of school health guidelines; liaison with health care providers, family, community, and schools
  3. Responsible for interpreting information from health care providers
  4. Responsible for participating in workshops/trainings/in-services for nurses/faculty
  5. Responsible for participating in school-wide screening programs
  6. Responsible in providing direct nursing care to students and staff
  7. Responsible for maintaining a current skills and knowledge base
  8. Responsible for compiling and submitting reports on a weekly, monthly, or quarterly basis
  9. Responsible for developing Nursing Plans of Care for students requiring skilled nursing services in the school setting
  10. Responsible for maintaining records for Medicaid billing
  11. Communicate health and safety information on a daily basis to staff and provide updated information and related trainings
  12. Phone calls and electronic communication to outside agencies regarding students' needs
  13. Well-child visit/Physical pre-work-up
  14. Covid-quarantine letter follow-up with parents/guardians
  15. Follow up with parents/guardians when a student fails vision and/or hearing screenings at school

In the event schools close for distance learning, other duties may be assigned by the principal
