McGuire and Hester is a construction company that provides complete site work services: pipelines, grading paving, concrete, landscape and mechanical. In addition to traditional project delivery methods, we are involved with design build projects and alternative delivery methods. Job Summary-This is a union position. Candidates must be a member of the applicable union or be willing and eligible to join the union as a condition of employment.

The Mechanics function is to safely maintain and fuel our equipment fleet. This job description may also perform a wide variety of tasks, transferring from one task to another as the work dictates. You will be responsible for making sure the equipment is ready to work and well maintained at the end of the day

Typical Duties

  • Use general knowledge of mechanical machinery in the following areas to perform repairs and preventative maintenance of all McGuire & Hester equipment related to operations owned or leased: Power Train, Electrical, Hydraulic, Engines, Air Systems, Ground Engaging Tools, Welding, and Metals
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and effective work area
  • Welding Experience
  • Perform and document 500-hour preventative maintenance repairs on selected equipment
  • Inform Equipment Manager of unsafe operator practices and abuses of equipment by field personnel
  • Find potential problems with equipment or systems that can be repaired before a situation worsens
  • Find and suggest new and improved methods of producing a better product, reducing costs, or improving productivity
  • Establish and maintain open communications with field personnel
  • Determine if a piece of equipment is safe to operate and Red Tag if necessary. Communicate your activity to the Resource Manager
  • Always maintain your assigned mechanic's truck in a professional manner and practice safe driving
  • Perform CHP mandated safety inspections professionally and completely. Document and file
  • Accurately cost code all labor and material associated with repairs. Record hour/mileage on all documents related to repairs or inspections
  • Estimate downtime and materials that might be needed to finish a repair, especially in the field
  • Use sound value-based decisions on component repairs vs replace
  • Be willing to share knowledge to increase the abilities of the entire maintenance staff
  • Plan your work to make the most efficient use of time and resources
  • Maintain a professional appearance and attitude
  • Think Safety-First and actively participate in the "Safety Bucks" program

Qualifications

Education and Experience: High School diploma or GED preferred and general knowledge of small tools and how to operate them

Language Skills: Ability to converse in English

Reasoning Ability: Apply common sense understanding to carry our multiple step instructions. Deal with standardized situations with occasional variables

Certificates, Licenses, and Registration: Valid CA's driver's license and a clean driving record

Compensation:

$50-$53 per hour, based on skills experience and knowledge
