The University of New Mexico Parking & Transportation Services (PATS) is seeking a dedicated and motivated Parking Equipment Technician to join our Parking Operations team.
This is an exciting opportunity to play a vital role in maintaining and improving the parking and transportation infrastructure that supports the UNM community. The ideal candidate is a team-oriented individual with experience in construction, facility maintenance, equipment repair, or a related field who enjoys a variety of hands-on work and is committed to providing exceptional customer service.
About the PositionAs a Parking Equipment Technician, you will assist with the coordination, operation, maintenance, and repair of the University's parking equipment and facilities. This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and performing a wide range of maintenance, repair, and operational duties that help ensure our parking facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming.
In addition to maintaining equipment and facilities, you will serve as a representative of UNM Parking & Transportation Services by providing directions, assistance, and excellent customer service to campus visitors, students, faculty, staff, and community members.
What You'll Do
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Install, inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair parking meters and pay stations.
  • Assist with the operation and maintenance of parking facility equipment and support systems
  • Design and implement traffic control measures using Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and approved traffic control devices.
  • Perform parking lot and roadway striping, pavement markings, and signage installation in compliance with DOT requirements.
  • Install parking and traffic signs on concrete, asphalt, structures, and other surfaces.
  • Perform asphalt maintenance, including crack sealing, patching, seal coating, and repairs.
  • Conduct routine maintenance and fabrication work involving carpentry, plumbing, painting, and basic metal work, including torch cutting and welding.
  • Maintain and clean university parking structures and related facilities.
  • Operate snow removal equipment, including plows and salt spreaders, during winter weather events.
  • Perform general maintenance, custodial duties, litter removal, and facility upkeep.
  • Safely respond to and clean biohazard incidents, including bloodborne pathogens and other potentially hazardous materials, in accordance with university and regulatory guidelines.
  • Maintain and service asphalt, concrete, painting, and maintenance equipment.
  • Document maintenance activities and maintain accurate records of work performed.
  • Promote and support continuous improvement in workplace safety and environmental practices.
  • Assist with traffic control operations and serve as a Traffic Officer when needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED; at least 6 months of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Installation, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of parking meters, pay stations, and related parking equipment.
  • Designing and implementing traffic control measures in accordance with Department of Transportation (DOT) standards and traffic control regulations.
  • Street, roadway, and parking lot striping, pavement marking, and painting in compliance with DOT requirements.
  • General facility maintenance and fabrication, including basic plumbing, carpentry, painting, and metalwork, including gas torch cutting and welding.
  • Snow and ice removal operations utilizing snowplows, salt spreaders, and related equipment.
  • Installation and maintenance of parking, directional, and traffic signage on concrete, asphalt, structures, and walls.
  • Asphalt maintenance and repair, including crack sealing, patching, seal coating, and surface restoration.
  • General maintenance, custodial services, litter removal, and facility upkeep.
  • Safe handling and cleanup of biohazardous materials, including bloodborne pathogens and other potentially hazardous substances, in accordance with applicable safety standards.
  • Inspection, maintenance, and repair of asphalt, concrete, painting, and maintenance equipment.
  • Documentation of maintenance activities, work orders, inspections, and facility maintenance requirements.
  • Promoting and supporting workplace safety initiatives and continuous improvement of environmental and safety practices.
  • Traffic control operations and the ability to serve as a Traffic Officer when operational needs require.
  • Performing a variety of other maintenance, operational, and job-related duties as assigned.
