Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Business Services Officer (BDSO) serves as the primary relationship manager for Hercules First Federal Credit Union's business and high-balance deposit members. This role is responsible for both growing the credit union's membership base and deepening relationships with existing accounts.
The BDSO functions as a trusted advisor to business owners and operators - understanding their operational needs and recommending the right combination of deposit accounts, cash management tools, merchant services, payroll solutions, and other business-facing products. Though business lending is handled by a separate lending team; the BDSO partners closely on referrals and joint member relationships.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Relationship Management
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for business member accounts and services, providing proactive, high-touch experience to ensure smooth and effective on-boarding of new business and high balance members.
  • Conduct periodic business reviews with members to assess evolving needs and identify opportunities to deepen the relationship.
  • Respond to member inquiries, resolve issues, and coordinate internal resources to deliver timely solutions.
  • Maintain accurate relationship notes and account activity records in the credit union system.

Business Development & Membership Growth
  • Identify and pursue opportunities to onboard new business members through referrals, community outreach, and networking.
  • Represent Hercules at local business events, chambers of commerce, and community organizations.
  • Collaborate with branch staff and the lending team to generate and receive cross-referrals.
  • Track pipeline activity and report on new business membership growth to the VP of Lending

Branch Support & Member Onboarding
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and primary resource for branch staff when onboarding new businesses and high value members.
  • Assist branches in completing business account opening documentation accurately, including entity verification, beneficial ownership, and required disclosures.
  • Provide training and ongoing coaching to branch personnel on business membership eligibility, account types, and service offerings.
  • Conduct joint onboarding appointments with branch staff for complex or high-value business relationships.

Business Deposit & Cash Management Services
  • Open and service business checking, savings, money market, and certificate accounts in accordance with Hercules policy and BSA/AML requirements
  • Present and onboard business members to cash management tools including ACH origination, wire transfers, remote deposit capture (RDC), and online/mobile banking.
  • Facilitate merchant services and payroll processing partnerships, coordinating with third-party vendors as applicable.

Compliance & Documentation
  • Ensure all business account openings comply with BSA/AML requirements including beneficial ownership (CDD/EDD) rules and OFAC screening.
  • Maintain current knowledge of NCUA member business services regulations and applicable Hercules policies and procedures.
  • Complete required documentation accurately and on time; support internal audit and exam readiness

Collaboration & Internal Partnership
  • Partner with the business lending team on joint member relationships; provide warm referrals for loan needs.
  • Work with marketing on business-focused campaigns, promotions, and member communications.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required
  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a business banking, commercial deposit, or member business services role at a credit union, bank, or financial institution.
  • Working knowledge of business deposit products, cash management services, and merchant/payroll service offerings.
  • Familiarity with BSA/AML compliance requirements, including beneficial ownership rules.
  • Working knowledge of cash flow tools and methods as well as underwriting for risk management related to deposit and business accounts/services.
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the ability to engage business owners and other high value members confidently.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to manage a portfolio of relationships and prioritize independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office; comfortable learning new core banking or CRM systems.
