About the Callaway Energy Center

The Callaway Energy Center is a nuclear facility located in mid-Missouri. The Energy Center has more than 800 employees and contractors working at the facility, and it has established a strong record of safe operation throughout its 30-year operating history. The Energy Center is a highly efficient, low-cost, sustainable source of electricity for Ameren Missouri's 1.2 million customers.

DUTIES:
Under direct but not constant supervision and working on a rotating or straight shift as required to measure and keep records of radiation levels; to service radiation protection and analytical equipment; to perform laboratory testing and related work such as, but not limited to, the following:
1. Make complex and routine radiation surveys by operating detecting and counting instruments according to schedule or as requested and recording the data.
2. Sample and determine the radioactivity level of materials using portable or laboratory type equipment.
3. Service and calibrate radiation protection equipment and instruments as may be assigned.
4. Give routine and special instructions to plant personnel and others regarding radiation safety.
5. Provide assistance to others as assigned in the operation and maintenance of all water processing and radwaste facilities.
6. Assist Technicians in other Rad/Chem classifications when required.
7. Each of the above duties may be administratively restricted until the individual has adequately demonstrated proficiency in related skills.
8. Communicate verbally or in writing with authorized inspectors or other representatives of plant management, or the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, on any plant activity with which Technician has been involved.
9. Properly drive a motor vehicle when directed or when required to perform his/her duties.
10. On an as needed basis, to serve in any other plant activity for which he/she is trained.
SPECIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
To develop and maintain a complete understanding of the plant emergency program and the plant security system. To react as appropriate in the protection of the public in case of an operational emergency and to serve as an active participant in these programs.


QUALIFICATIONS FOR JOURNEYMAN:
An applicant for the Journeyman Program shall:
1. Be at least 18 years of age at time of application
2. Have graduated from high school or passed equivalency examination
3. Be able to perform the essential functions of the discipline
4. Passed requirements for unescorted access at the Callaway Energy Center
5. Must meet one of the following criteria:
a. Pass a discipline entry test developed by the Company and reviewed by the Union with a score of 80% or better to enter the line of promotion
b. Three years of experience doing comparable work
OR
Achieve a rank of E5 or Navy ELT
c. Completion of associated apprentice program
d. Associate degree in Chemistry, Health Physics, or Radiation Protection

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must have good eyesight, good reflexes, good hearing and no color deficiency in vision.
2. The candidate must successfully complete a full medical examination. This medical examination is to include a test or examination by a psychiatrist or physician to determine that there is no sign of aberrant behavior or emotional instability that would impair his ability to discharge his duties in a competent manner.

Hourly Pay:

Grade Step OA 073 Step 1 of 1 (Top Step) - 50.13 USD
