Description
Grays Harbor College is looking for a talented, dedicated, equity-minded, full-time temporary faculty member to teach and lead the Construction Trades Apprenticeship Prep (CTAP) program located at Stafford Creek Correction Center (SCCC) campus. Faculty in industrial technology programs are responsible for teaching industry standards and practices, establishing educational and professional pathways for students, collaborating to shape and develop the program, and promoting career and technical programs to local school districts, community organizations, and industry stakeholders. The ideal candidate is knowledgeable about the latest standards and practices in building trades technology (drywall, roofing, and siding) and related industry and can revise the curriculum accordingly. Additional faculty responsibilities include instructional shop maintenance and development, equipment maintenance, supply management, academic student advising, outcomes assessment, committee work, community outreach, accreditation requirements, and other duties as assigned. The instructor will also be required to attend a 6-week Correctional CORE Worker Training, sponsored by the Department of Corrections. The position will begin in October 2026.
The Department of Corrections contracts with Grays Harbor College to provide educational services for offenders. This position is located at Stafford Creek Corrections Center (SCCC), an adult male prison. Although safeguards are implemented to protect staff, this work will be performed inside a corrections facility where the potential for violence exists. Applicants for this position must be able to pass an N.C.I.C. background check and be cleared to work in a prison. Continual access to the facility is a critical element of employment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Teach building and construction trades technology and related courses maintaining a course load of no more than 20 credit hours per quarter.
  • Introduction to a variety of different building trades. Orient students to the objectives of the program, learning outcomes and assessment methods.
  • Basic Tools, Basic Construction, Basic Blueprints (Safe use of tools for various trades, toolbelt preparation, draw basic blueprints, complete physical agility courses for various trades).
  • Introduction to Worksite Behavior, Readiness and Safety (Jobsite setting, material handling, physical stamina required for construction, OSHA 10, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion).
  • Math for the Trades Fundamentals (Including but not limited to: Fractions, percentages, measuring techniques, concepts of lineal ft, square ft and volume).
  • Develop and revise building trades technology program curriculum and instructional materials to align with industry standards in related fields.
  • Maintain a classroom environment that affirms a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion and demonstrates an understanding of historically disadvantaged populations and awareness of cultural relevance.
  • Use technology to enhance student learning and instructional effectiveness.
  • Observe and evaluate students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement.
  • Incorporate elements of work ethics and professionalism.
  • Maintain tool and material inventory in accordance with DOC policy and procedures.
  • Order and inventory instructional supplies and instructional material.
  • Stay current in the field through professional development, professional organizations, and professional meetings, conferences, and workshops.
  • Liaise between the college, community organizations, and industry stakeholders to promote the college and Industrial Technology programs.
  • Engage in shared governance by serving on college committees and participating in department, division, and college meetings.

  • Hold or be eligible to obtain a state professional-technical certificate to teach in the technical area

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Previous supervisory or lead experience in construction-related trades
  • Associates degree or higher in a relevant field
  • Experience teaching at the community college level, adult education, high school, or apprentice training
  • Experience working in a carceral setting
