Job Summary

The Underwriter Trainee is an entry level role, with the main goal to learn the technical skills of underwriting along with account management responsibilities, including direct communication with our broker community. This individual will provide a support role to the underwriters they work with, assisting in the new business submission and policy renewal process, along with midterm activity management. This is a great opportunity to learn the insurance product that provides immediate responsibility and opportunity for long-term growth and advancement. Allied World provides multiple training and education courses to provide the skills and knowledge to succeed in this role and beyond.

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform account analysis according to Allied World guidelines

  • Develop account pricing/ structure/ make recommendations

  • Perform and document referrals

  • Prepare quotes, binders, underwriting worksheets within company guidelines

  • Maintain files in an orderly manner consistent with company guidelines

  • Attend client meetings, lunches, dinners, and other outings as applicable

  • Market to brokers within assigned region and engage in production meetings

  • Work with legal department for manuscript wording analysis and preparation as needed

  • Interact with senior management on referral items

Qualifications

  • University / Undergraduate degree required

  • Ability to work independently in a fast paced, high pressure environment

  • 0-3 years of experience in underwriting

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)

  • Excellent communication (both written and verbal) and interpersonal skills

  • Strong attention to detail and quantitative skills

  • Ability to work to deadlines and prioritize tasks

  • Willingness to travel for client meetings and broker visits throughout the assigned region


The salary range for this role is between:

Salary: $70,000

The below annualized base pay range is a broad range based on analysis of similarpositions in the market. The actual base pay for the position may be above or below the listed range and determined by a number of considerations, including but not limited to complexity, location, and scope of the role, along with experience, skills, education, training,and other conditions of employment. Base salary represents one component of Allied World's comprehensive total reward package, which may also include annual incentive compensation rewards.
