Summary: We are seeking a skilled and dependable Underground Utility Pipe Layer to join our construction team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining underground pipes, including water, sewer, and stormwater systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in utility construction, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to safety and quality work. The following responsibilities are not all-encompassing, as specific work tasks vary.

Pay Rate: $30/ hour

Essential Responsibilities

  • Pipe Installation: Accurately lay and align pipes for water, sewer, and drainage systems following blueprints, specifications, and project plans.
  • Trenching and Excavation: Collaborate with equipment operators to dig trenches to specified depths and dimensions.
  • Pipe Assembly: Cut, bevel, and join pipes using various methods such as welding, adhesives, or mechanical fittings.
  • Grade Preparation: Ensure proper grading and bedding to achieve correct pipe slope and alignment for optimal flow.
  • Leak Testing: Conduct pressure and flow tests to verify the integrity of installed pipes and systems.
  • Site Maintenance: Backfill trenches, compact soil, and restore the site to a safe and clean condition.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and regulations, including OSHA standards, to maintain a hazard-free work environment.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with crew members, foremen, and project managers to ensure timely project completion.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of three years of experience preferred.
  • Strong industry experience specific to construction, or equivalent knowledge.
  • Understanding of pipe types, fittings, tools, and installation methods.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy materials and working in various weather conditions.
  • Capability to work in confined spaces and at varying depths.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, and project specifications.
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as excavators, backhoes, or trenchers.
  • Familiarity with GPS equipment for trench and grade accuracy.
