Summary

General Excavating is an award-winning contractor serving public and private owners throughout Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming. General Excavating specializes in the construction of underground utilities, natural gas distribution, environmental remediation, excavation shoring, directional drilling, hydro-excavation, and heavy civil including bridge and concrete structures.

The General Laborers is expected to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner with the best workmanship possible. Keep open communication with Foreman or Superintendent when circumstances, which affect completion of the assigned tasks, have changed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

  • Provides general clean-up of site and job site organization
  • Assists in duties such as dewatering, light demolition work, dust control
  • Load, unload and handle steel and wood forms and accessories.
  • Tracks small tools used and store appropriately at the end of the workday
  • Inspect tools for safe working conditions, and tag and turn in any damaged equipment
  • Clean and prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Assists with material and equipment staging for maximum efficiency
  • Lubricate, clean, and fuel machinery, equipment, and tools.
  • Assists with directing traffic and clearing the path in the event of an emergency
  • Installation of temporary partitions, safety rails and cable
  • Maintains regular and reliable attendance and physical presence at the assigned work place
  • Must observe and practice safety standards and policies of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and/or Experience

  • Valid Driver's License with clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test and physical exam.

Language Skills

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.

Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
