Underground Utility Foreman Jobs in Florida (NOW HIRING)

We are seeking an experienced, driven, and safety-minded Underground Utility Foreman to lead site operations, operate equipment, and manage daily field productivity.

Position Summary

The Underground Utility Foreman will supervise field crews in the installation, repair, and maintenance of wet utilities (sanitary, storm, and pressure pipe). This is a hands-on leadership role requiring expertise in heavy equipment operation, pipe laying, job site survey/instrument setup, material planning, and scheduling.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Field Leadership & Project Planning

• Look-Ahead Scheduling: Develop and execute 1–2 week look-ahead schedules to keep site production on timeline and within budget.
• Material Take-Offs: Perform daily/weekly material take-offs to ensure required pipes, fittings, structures, and backfill materials are ordered and on-site prior to work starting.
• Instrument & Layout Setup: Set up and maintain laser levels, transit instruments, and grade checking tools to ensure precise line and grade alignments.
• Crew Management: Direct, mentor, and evaluate on-site labor crews, pipelayers, and equipment operators, maintaining high standards of quality craftsmanship.

Site Operations & Utility Installation

• Oversee trenching, excavation, pipe installation, bed prep, backfilling, and compaction for:
• • Sanitary sewer lines and manholes
  • Stormwater drainage systems
  • Pressure piping / water distribution systems
• Operate heavy excavation equipment (excavators, loaders, backhoes, dozers) as needed to assist production or direct tight-clearance operations.

Safety, Compliance & Quality Control

• Job Site Safety: Enforce company safety policies, conduct daily safety toolbox talks, and ensure strict compliance with OSHA standards and Confined Space regulations.
• Perform trench safety oversight (sloping, benching, trench shields/shoring).
• Identify and locate existing underground utilities prior to digging (811 utility mark-outs).
• Ensure all installed utilities meet local municipal specifications, design drawings, and NASSCO standards.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Experience: 3–5+ years of experience as an Underground Utility Foreman or Lead Person in civil site construction.
• Technical Skills:
• • Proven experience with sanitary sewer, storm drainage, and pressure pipe systems.
  • Skilled heavy equipment operator (Excavators, Wheel Loaders, Backhoes).
  • Proficient in reading blueprints, civil site plans, and cut/fill sheets.
  • Hands-on ability to set up pipe lasers, transits, and auto-levels.
• Drivers License: Clean and valid Florida Driver’s License (CDL is a plus).
• Certifications (Preferred / Must be willing to obtain):
• • OSHA 10 or 30-Hour Construction Certification
  • Confined Space Entry Certification
  • Competent Person Trenching & Excavation
