Job Summary
As the UG Laborer, you will ultimately be responsible for supporting underground utility construction activities, assisting equipment operators, and maintaining safe and efficient jobsite operations. You will perform manual labor tasks related to excavation, conduit installation, site preparation, and restoration. Your customers include internal construction crews and utility clients, and you will make meaningful contributions to the company's success through teamwork, safety, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities (Including, but not limited to)
- Participate in daily safety meetings and follow all company and jobsite safety policies and procedures.
- Assist with excavation activities, including trenching, shoring, conduit installation, backfilling, and potholing existing utilities.
- Load, unload, transport, and organize materials, tools, and equipment while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
- Operate tamping equipment and other approved hand and power tools while performing daily equipment inspections.
- Assist with installing utility structures and performing concrete, asphalt, and site restoration activities.
- Support construction crews by completing assigned manual labor tasks to ensure projects are completed safely and efficiently.
- Additional responsibilities within functional scope based on business needs.
Required Qualifications
Education, Licensing, and Certifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
Experience
- Basic knowledge of construction practices.
- Experience in underground utility construction or related construction environments preferred.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of construction safety procedures and safe work practices.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in underground utility construction.
- Experience operating small construction equipment and power tools.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a construction team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 lbs.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and perform manual labor for extended periods.
- Work performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Exposure to excavation sites, heavy equipment, dust, noise, uneven terrain, and active construction environments.
- Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle record (MVR) check.
