Job description

DOE Savannah River Site (SRS) processes and stores nuclear materials in support of national defense and U.S. nuclear nonproliferation efforts. The site also develops and deploys technologies to improve the environment and treat solid and liquid nuclear and hazardous waste left from the Cold War. While current missions remain the highest priority, SRS leadership places great importance on developing broader missions for SRS that use its unique capabilities to address critical national missions.
The Operation and Maintenance operator is Savannah River Nuclear Solutions (SRNS), as a Subcontractor to SRNS, Amentum Technology Inc. (ATI) provides telecommunications system operation and maintenance services as well as site operator services at SRS. This position supports operation and maintenance program managing the voice and data services at the Savannah River site.
Work Schedule: 0700-1730
Essential Responsibilities:
Install, splice, test, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair copper and fiber cables (multimode/single mode) and terminals in aerial, buried, underground, and buildings at SRS in support of the Savannah River Nuclear Solutions, LLC (SRNS) O&M Telecommunication's contract. Responsibilities include:
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair, test, splice and material management of outside plant copper and outside plant fiber cables and terminals.
  • Locate underground cable for interference.
  • Install fiber-optic splice cabinets and enclosures.
  • Execution of all Outside Plant (OSP) activities for Work Orders (WO) & trouble tickets.
  • Assist cable placement engineers in field verification of cables and cable routes, conduit, and telecommunication manholes as they relate to specific requirements.
  • Maintain splicing and testing equipment.
  • Perform test using Optical Time Domain Reflector (OTDR) and power meters
  • Provide new cable information when new facilities are added.
  • Provide details to appropriate responsible people to update site drawings.
  • Work in manholes and outdoors.
  • Operate forklift is a plus, not required.

Work Environment, Physical Demands, and Mental Demands:
  • Able to work in manholes
  • Work outside for cable locates
  • Know colors for large copper counts
  • Know colors for large Fiber counts
  • Able to splice large count copper/fiber cable

Minimum Requirements:
  • Outside Plant Fiber and Copper knowledge
  • Cat 5e and Cat 6a cabling knowledge for installation, termination, and repair.
  • Single mode and Multimode Fiber installation and termination knowledge
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen
  • Must have a current driver's license
  • Must pass an alcohol and substance abuse test
  • Must be able to pass to obtain DOE Clearance
  • Must be able to work flexible hours

Physical Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift, up to 50 lbs.
  • Stand on your feet for extended periods of time.
  • Work in manholes and outdoors
  • Must be able to pass to obtain DOE Clearance
