Overview

Program Summary/Objective

The program is an exciting opportunity for high-school students to gain hands-on experience in retail operations, sales, estimating, and materials handling. Apprentices will work side-by-side with experienced team members to learn how a lumber yard and retail building materials store runs form the ground up.

This program is designed to introduce students to careers in construction supply, logistics, and business management, and to help them build valuable workplace skills.

What You’ll Learn

•How to assist with customer service and inside sales

•Basics of reading blueprints and estimating material needs

•Inventory management and merchandising

•Exposure to store systems like invoicing, point-of-sale, and basic reporting

•Career pathway options in construction and retail leadership


Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

•Greet and assist customers in a professional and friendly manner

•Learn to read basic blueprints and assist with material take-offs

•Organize materials in the yard and maintain cleanliness of work areas

•Support store staff with merchandising and stocking tasks
