Job description

Breast Imaging - UNC Health Johnston

Position Description:

UNC Health is seeking a fully clinical, onsite Breast Imaging Radiologist to provide breast imaging services at UNC Health Johnston locations in Smithfield and Clayton, North Carolina. This position supports high-quality, patient-centered breast imaging care within a community-based setting while maintaining integration with the broader UNC Health system.

UNC Health Johnston Ambulatory Imaging and UNC Health Johnston Clayton Ambulatory Imaging hold accreditation in mammography by the American College of Radiology (ACR), reflecting established quality, safety, and regulatory compliance standards. These sites provide a strong foundation for continued service growth and program development in breast imaging.

Breast imaging services at UNC Health Johnston Health are delivered in an outpatient ambulatory setting and support diagnostic and procedural care for a diverse patient population. This is a fully clinical role requiring onsite presence at UNC Johnston Health locations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Interpret screening and diagnostic mammography examinations

  • Perform breast imaging procedures, including ultrasound-guided and stereotactic biopsies

  • Interpret breast MRI and perform MRI-guided breast biopsies

  • Serve as the lead interpreting physician for breast imaging services, with responsibility for oversight of quality assurance, regulatory compliance, and accreditation of the mammography facility

  • Participate in multidisciplinary breast tumor board conferences in collaboration with surgical, medical, and radiation oncology colleagues

  • Support the implementation and growth of advanced breast imaging services, including contrast-enhanced mammography

  • Collaborate with clinical and administrative partners to support program growth and operational excellence

Growth Opportunities and Program Development:

This position offers the opportunity to contribute to the continued growth of Breast Imaging services at UNC Health Johnston. Opportunities may include expansion of procedural services, leadership in quality and compliance activities, and participation in multidisciplinary care models supporting comprehensive breast health services in a community-based setting.

Employment Model:

This position operates under the UNC Faculty Practice (FP) Statewide employment model and is regulated by the FP Radiology Statewide compensation plan, in accordance with UNC Health and School of Medicine policies.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:

  • MD or equivalent

  • Board certified or board eligible Radiologist

  • Eligible for licensure in the State of North Carolina

  • MQSA certification

  • Experience with breast imaging procedures, including ultrasound, stereotactic and MRI-guided

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience:

  • Fellowship training in Breast Imaging or equivalent clinical experience

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary clinical teams

  • Interest or experience in clinical program development in a community-based setting
