Summary:
The Infusion Clinical Pharmacist is responsible for providing comprehensive clinical pharmacy services within the UNC Health Eastowne Therapeutic Infusion Center. This pharmacist serves as the medication expert for outpatient infusion therapies, partnering with physicians, advanced practice providers, nursing, pharmacy operations, and financial teams to optimize safe, effective, and timely patient care.
This position plays a critical role in patient education, improving patient access, supporting new infusion therapies, care coordination, and advancing UNC Health's infusion services strategic goals.
Responsibilities:
Clinical Patient Care
  • Educate patients, caregivers, nursing staff, pharmacists, pharmacy residents, and learners on infusion therapies

  • Conduct new-start patient counseling for biologic therapies in hematology, neurology, gastroenterology, rheumatology, dermatology, and other specialty infusion therapies

  • Serve as the primary pharmacy resource for same-day clinical questions and infusion-related medication issues

Medication Access and Insurance Navigation
  • Partner with the Medication Access and Prior Authorization teams to facilitate initiation and continuation of infusion therapies

  • Assist in resolving insurance barriers, evaluating coverage requirements, support prior authorization navigation with the MAPs team, identifying financial assistance resources, and optimizing therapy selection when appropriate

Clinical Care Coordination
  • Serve as the clinical liaison between providers, specialty clinical pharmacists, and the infusion center to ensure coordination of patient care

  • Serve as a primary resource for same day infusion related questions

Infusion Program Growth and Strategic Initiatives
  • Support the expansion of UNC Health's infusion services through participation in strategic initiatives and process improvement projects

  • Collaborate with operational and clinical leadership to develop strategic initiatives and standardized workflows

Education Requirements:
• PharmD or BS Pharmacy Degree
Licensure/Certification Requirements:
• Active pharmacist licensure with the NC Board of Pharmacy or obtainable before initiation of employment. Recent graduates of ACPE-accredited colleges/schools of pharmacy may fill this role while pending initial pharmacist licensure, but are subject to limitations mandated by the NC Board of Pharmacy and must obtain licensure within 6 months of orientation or sooner if required for operations.
Professional Experience Requirements:
  • Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD)

  • Experience in ambulatory infusion, oncology, rheumatology, neurology, gastroenterology, immunology, or specialty pharmacy

  • Experience with biologics and specialty infusion therapies

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements:
  • PGY1 Pharmacy Residency

  • PGY2 Ambulatory Care, Oncology, or Specialty Pharmacy Residency

  • Board Certification (BCPS, BCOP, BCACP, or other applicable specialty certification)
