Job description

Job Duties:

  • Perform ultrasound exams including abdominal, pelvic, OB/GYN (1st, 2nd, and 3rd trimesters), small parts, and vascular studies.
  • Prepare patients for exams by explaining procedures, confirming clinical history, and ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Operate and maintain ultrasound equipment and ensure proper image quality and orientation.
  • Review and evaluate images for diagnostic quality and completeness.
  • Document exam findings and patient data accurately into the PACS/RIS system.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and healthcare providers to ensure timely and accurate diagnosis.
  • Ensure compliance with infection control, patient confidentiality, and safety policies.
  • Maintain appropriate stock of supplies and clean examination areas.
  • Assist with training and orientation of students or new staff, if applicable
  • Participate in quality assurance and continuing education activities.
  • Adapt to schedule changes and support departmental workflow as needed.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Completion of an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program
  • 1-2 years of clinical ultrasound experience
  • Experience with general, OB/GYN, and vascular sonography
  • Recent graduates may be considered based on clinical performance and readiness.
  • ARDMS Certification (Abdomen, OB/GYN, or other specialty)
  • ARDMS registry-eligible candidates may be considered with the expectation to obtain certification within a specified period.
  • BLS (CPR) Certification
  • State licensure (if applicable) - Must be current and in good standing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of ultrasound anatomy, physiology, scanning protocols, and image optimization techniques
  • Familiarity with ultrasound equipment and medical imaging software (PACS, RIS, EMR)
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to provide compassionate care and respond to patient concerns professionally.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow complex imaging protocols.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Time management skills and ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
