ULTRASOUND TECHNICIAN

Position Purpose:

To perform diagnostic medical ultrasound procedures to meet the needs of the providers of Community Health of South Dade, Inc.

Position Requirements / Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or GED. Graduation from an accredited School of Diagnostic Medical Ultrasound or completion of formal ultrasound training program. A minimum of one-year clinical experience as a diagnostic medical sonographer. Competency in high-risk obstetrical ultrasound.

Licensure / Certification:

Registered Diagnostic Medical Sonographer (RDMS) in OB/GYN, Abdomen, and small parts. Maintain continuing education. Maintain current CPR certification from the American Heart Association.

Skills / Ability:

Work requires intense concentration and efficient work habits. Competency in OB/GYN, Abdomen, and small parts ultrasound. Ability to interact courteously and effectively with patients and providers.

POSITION RESPONSIBLITIES (THIS IS A NON-EXEMPT POSITION)

  • Performs all ultrasound procedures as outlined by department protocols, and consistently produces images of required diagnostic quality.
  • Possesses a thorough understanding of the principles of physics, anatomy, medical terminology, sterile technique, and patient care.
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge of the equipment and its capabilities.
  • Possesses technical discipline to observe, maintain, identify, and report primary and secondary equipment issues.
  • Maintains knowledge and proficiency in the ACR imaging standards, including, but not limited to: first and second trimester obstetrical ultrasound, GYN, abdomen, and small parts.
  • Must be competent in the handling of patients of all ages, including infants, pediatrics, adults and geriatric age patients.
  • Carefully and thoroughly completes radiologist work sheet identifying all findings.
  • Participates in and understands the principles of the quality management program.
  • Knowledgeable in all aspects of day-to-day operation of the department including scheduling reception, MIS, and film library.
  • Copies images and knows the checkout procedure.
  • Demonstrates good judgment when interacting with patients and an ability to organize work to obtain maximum quality and efficiency.
  • Alerts supervisor of needed supplies before shortage is imminent.
  • Always searches carefully for previous films.
  • Works quickly and efficiency to complete studies within an appropriate time frame.
  • Maintains equipment and work area in a clean, orderly, and sanitary manner.
  • Maintains a cooperative working relationship with all members of the Radiology Department
  • Greets patients in a courteous manner, responds to patients with empathy and positive interpersonal skills.
  • Performs basic patient care functions assuming care for physical and psychological needs of the patient during the procedure.
  • Initiates life support measures, if necessary.
    • Assumes on-call duties as required maintaining appropriate proximity and availability to the institution.
