Ultrasonographer Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Radiologist, Diagnostic Imaging administration and/or Lead - the Ultrasonographer performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgement, ingenuity and initiative in the application of non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves to patients for diagnosis of disease.
Ultrasonographer Job Responsibilities:
  • Move transducer, by hand, over specified area of body and observe sound wave display on screen to monitor quality of ultrasonic pattern produced.
  • Perform abdominal, OB-GYN, vascular, and small parts sonography.
  • Assist radiologists with ultrasound guided procedures.
  • Discuss test findings with the radiologist.
  • Explain procedure to the patient. Instruct and assist patient in assuming physical position for exam
  • Set, adjust, manipulate, control and maintain a variety of complex electronic equipment to apply non-ionizing, high frequency ultrasonic waves to patients for diagnosis of disease.

Ultrasonographer Education & Experience Requirements:
Education
  • Attended an accredited school for Diagnostic Ultrasound or have equivalent experience.
  • Employee must have ARDMS Certification (including Physics and an additional anatomic specific registry).
  • RVT certification strongly preferred
  • Must. maintain ARDMS certification
  • CPR - Current AHA Healthcare Provider Certification / equivalent within 3 months of hire is required.

Experience
  • 1-2 years working in an Ultrasound environment required.
  • Experience and registration in abdominal, pelvic, OB-GYN, vascular, and small parts sonography preferred.
  • Required learn to perform additional sonography protocols under the direction of the Senior Ultrasonographers and Lead Ultrasonographer.
  • Proficient in these categories within 9 months of the beginning of training is required.

Ultrasonographer Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
  • High degree of technical aptitude with an in-depth knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
  • Act quickly in an emergency.
  • Change from one duty to another frequently and follow instructions exactly.
  • Develop new and better techniques to keep the department up to date.
  • Accept and perform new procedures as they develop.
  • Be self-motivated with regard to increasing present level of understanding and knowledge of the field.
  • Perform portable examinations.
  • Rotate shifts as required and take call when designated.
  • Work various days of the week and holidays as required.
  • Work without direct supervision within the guidelines established by the DI Administration.
