Total Negotiated Salary (TNS) depending on specialty can range from $440,000-$575,000. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and/or step at appointment. This position includes membership in the health science compensation plan, which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.

Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care
Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series

The Department of Anesthesiology & Perioperative Care at the University of California, Irvine anticipates openings for physicians in general anesthesia and its various divisions. These openings will be at the level of Assistant Professor or above, depending upon the candidate's qualifications and will be in the Health Sciences Clinical Series (non-tenure track). Candidate must be board eligible or board certified. Candidate must be eligible for California licensure or licensed to practice in the state of California. Fellowship trained or equivalent experience preferred.

Criteria for the Professor in the HS Series:
Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series faculty engage in scholarly or creative activities which derive from and support their primary responsibilities in clinical teaching and professional and service activities.

The divisions include Cardiac, Critical Care, Neonatal/Pediatrics, Neuro, Obstetrics, Pain Medicine, and Regional. The Health Sciences Clinical Professor will provide care at UCI Medical Center in Orange, CA and Irvine, CA and/or affiliated sites in Orange County.

Clinicians interested in pursuing an academic career in Anesthesiology and related specialties will be given the opportunity to grow in a dynamic department. There are ample opportunities for leadership roles, research, and career advancement. Our team includes a group of innovative, forward-thinking individuals with high standards of teaching, research, and patient care.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
* Perioperative Management: Including, but not limited to the assessment, examination and optimization of the surgical patient.
* General Anesthesiology: Including but not limited to inhalational anesthetics, intravenous anesthetics and use of muscle relaxants.
* Monitored Anesthesia Care
* Airway management: Including but not limited to Ventilation using bag and mask, laryngoscopy and intubation, laryngeal mask airway, fiberoptic laryngoscopy and intubation, bronchoscopy, cricothyroidotomy and other difficult airway techniques.
* Conduction/Regional Anesthesia: Including but not limited to Epidural Analgesia/ Anesthesia, Spinal Anesthesia, IV regional blocks (bier block), infiltration blocks, plexus blocks with and without catheter placement (brachial,
supraclavicular, lumbo-sacral), peripheral nerve and field blocks, epidural blocks (caudal, lumbar, thoracic), and subarachnoid blocks using nerve stimulation or ultrasound.
* Placement and use of invasive hemodynamic monitoring including arterial cannulation, central venous cannulation, pulmonary artery catheter placement.
* Routine surface ultrasonography for line placement and surface diagnostics.
* Mechanical ventilation to accomplish physiologic homeostasis.
* Obstetric Anesthesia: Placement and management of labor epidurals and continuous spinal epidurals, management of conduction and general anesthesia for caesarian section, and neonatal resuscitation.
* Cardiopulmonary resuscitation
* Supervision and care of patients in the post-anesthesia care unit.
* Management of acute pain in patients.
* Anesthetic management of common pediatric anesthesia cases in children 2 to 16 years of age.
* Pain Management: Including, but not limited to initial consultations, longitudinal management, opioid management, performing and managing sympathetic blocks, spinal injections, radiofrequency ablation, trigger point injections, joint injections, differential nerve blocks, botulinum toxin injections, spinal cord stimulation and intrathecal pump delivery system therapies.

UCI Medical Center in Orange is a 459-bed acute care hospital equipped with state-of-the-art operating rooms and is the region's only Level I trauma center and Level II pediatric trauma center. It is the primary teaching and training location for the UCI School of Medicine. For 21 consecutive years, the medical center has been rated among America's Best Hospitals by U.S. News & World Report. UCI Health recently built and opened in 2025, UCI Medical Center-Irvine, a full-service academic health complex that will bring a broad spectrum of the most advanced healthcare services. The medical campus, which complements the flagship UCI Medical Center in Orange, includes a seven-story, 144-bed general acute care hospital with a 24-hour emergency department. It also features the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care building and the Joe C. Wen & Family Center for Advanced Care.

UCI offers an excellent salary, incentive, and benefit program. Faculty rank and compensation is commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Health Sciences Clinical Professor Series faculty will have on average a 40-hour work week clinical commitment including call responsibilities.
