The Barefield College of Arts and Sciences, in partnership with UA Early College, is hiring a full-time online instructor in History (nine-month position, with the possibility of summer appointments as needed). The appointment is non-tenure earning and is a one-year term with the possibility of renewal. The expected start date for the position is January 1, 2027.
The holder of the position will teach introductory surveys for UA Early College (dual-enrollment students taking UA courses for college credit), including American and/or Western Civilization. The department welcomes applicants specializing in any geographic or chronological field of history. Minimum qualifications include a PhD in History or closely related field in hand by January 1, 2027, when the position begins.
The instructor will be expected to teach department-approved online course content and facilitate each course with best practices for online instruction. Instructors provide an active instructional presence, data-informed student support, and timely feedback and grading. The selected instructor will actively facilitate course content; maintain the academic standards and expectations of The University of Alabama while supporting students as they develop college-level skills and habits; maintain regular online office hours; and regularly collaborate with faculty and staff as needed.
The position is considered 80% teaching and 20% service. Instructors must be available to participate in their online courses throughout the week, including occasional work outside of normal business hours. The selected instructor must be willing and able to travel to campus regularly, e.g. for faculty meetings, professional development activities, service obligations, etc.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum qualifications include a PhD in History or closely related field in hand by January 1, 2027, when the position begins.
