Job description

Millennium Space Systems, part of Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS), builds agile small satellites that protect our nation. From missile warning to Earth observation, our spacecraft make a real impact on global security.

Picture your second shift: you badge into the high bay, power up the orbital welder, and join a tight-knit crew that thrives on precision, curiosity, and bold ideas. When our satellites launch, you’ll know your welds helped put critical capability on orbit.

What you’ll do
  • Execute orbital tube welding to fabricate tube subassemblies and complete propulsion tank closeouts for flight hardware.
  • Build and integrate thermal and electrical components on spacecraft (thermistors, heaters, non‑flight thermocouples, and related hardware) by reading and applying blueprints, engineering drawings/specs, and detailed assembly, integration, and test procedures.
  • Perform visual inspections of propulsion assemblies against drawings, specifications, and test/assembly procedures.
  • Operate material-handling and ground support equipment (forklifts, overhead cranes, aerial lifts, flight-vehicle and subassembly transporters, truck/tractor-trailer combinations, and other GSE).
  • Travel, as needed, to support program operations.
  • Use a wide range of tools, including orbital tube and tack welding machines, drill press, grinders, and common hand/power tools.
  • Collaborate closely with Design Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials, Procurement, Shipping, and Quality stakeholders to resolve issues involving design, methods, tooling, cost, and product quality.
  • Support additional production or integration tasks as business needs evolve; mentor and cross-train new teammates.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Where and when you’ll work
  • 100% onsite; you will work from one of our designated facilities.
  • Shift: Primarily second shift (Shift 2, United States of America). You must be able to support any shift, as assigned, to meet program objectives.
Role details
  • Internal job code: Propulsion Subsystem Manuf Tech Senior
  • Grade: 24
  • Union-represented; hourly role governed by the Cabinet Makers, Millmen and Industrial Carpenters Union (CMM&IC Local 721). New hires and transfers from non-union roles may be required to complete training during a 90‑day probationary period; continued employment depends on successful completion.
  • Conflict of Interest: Successful candidates must satisfy the Company’s Conflict of Interest (COI) assessment process.
Basic qualifications
  • 4+ years of hands‑on propulsion assembly experience on high‑reliability products (preferably aerospace).
  • 1+ year of orbital tube welding experience.
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to interpret drawings, schematics, harness wiring diagrams, and internal/external specifications.
  • Proficiency with inspection tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, DMM, depth gauges).
  • Meticulous attention to detail; able to lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Experience installing heaters and thermistors; comfortable with common hand and power tools.
  • Experience mixing epoxy materials.
  • Strong communicator and team collaborator; proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Preferred qualifications
  • 5+ years in aerospace.
  • 5+ years of orbital tube welding.
  • 2+ years installing thermal system components in aerospace applications.
  • 2+ years of harness assembly and routing.
Security and compliance
  • Export Control: This role requires a U.S. Person under 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 (U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee).
  • Security Clearance: Ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance; an interim and/or final U.S. Secret clearance post‑start is required. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and willing to apply for and maintain a clearance. Facility requires special access. Millennium is a DDTC‑registered, ITAR‑compliant company.
  • Visa Sponsorship: Employer will not sponsor applicants for employment visa status.
  • Relocation: Not available for this position.
  • Language Requirements: Not applicable.
  • Contingent Upon Award: This position is not contingent upon program award.
Total rewards and pay

We offer competitive base pay and variable compensation, plus access to health insurance, flexible spending accounts, health savings accounts, retirement savings plans, life and disability programs, and paid/unpaid time off programs. Program availability may vary based on factors such as location, date of hire, and collective bargaining agreements. Pay is based on experience, qualifications, market, and business considerations.
