What is a TypeScript game developer?

A TypeScript Game Developer is a professional who uses TypeScript, a statically typed superset of JavaScript, to design and develop interactive games. They often work with game engines and frameworks that support TypeScript, such as Phaser or PixiJS, to create browser-based or cross-platform games. Their responsibilities include coding game logic, optimizing performance, and collaborating with artists and designers to deliver engaging user experiences. TypeScript helps improve code quality and maintainability, making it a popular choice for modern game development.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a TypeScript game developer?

To thrive as a TypeScript Game Developer, you need strong proficiency in TypeScript, JavaScript, and game development principles, often supported by a background in computer science or related fields. Familiarity with game engines (such as Phaser or Babylon.js), version control systems like Git, and experience with debugging and performance optimization tools are typically required. Creativity, problem-solving, and effective communication help developers collaborate with designers and artists to bring engaging games to life. These combined skills ensure the creation of efficient, scalable, and enjoyable gaming experiences for users.

What are some typical challenges faced by a TypeScript game developer when working on cross-platform game projects?

As a Typescript Game Developer, one common challenge is ensuring consistent performance and gameplay experience across different platforms, such as web browsers and mobile devices. Handling varying device capabilities, screen sizes, and input methods requires careful planning and thorough testing. Additionally, integrating Typescript with popular game engines or frameworks may involve resolving compatibility issues and optimizing code for efficiency. Full Stack Engineer (Frontend & Android Focus)

San Mateo, CA

Full-time

Re-posted 20 days ago

Key responsibilities

  • Design and develop responsive, high-performance web and Android applications for monitoring and controlling robotic fleets.

  • Implement visualization tools to render real-time 3D environments, maps, and telemetry data in browsers and on mobile devices.

  • Engineer resilient data synchronization layers to handle poor network conditions and ensure seamless operation and data integrity.

Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Full Stack Engineer with a specialization in Frontend and Androiddevelopment. In this role, you will build critical interfaces that end customers use to understand the performance of the robotics system in their application, operators use to deploy and manage fleets of robots, and operators and engineers use for debugging.

You will bridge the gap between complex robotic intelligence and the user experience for our commercial partners. You will be responsible for designing and implementing high-performance applications that render real-time 3D environments, telemetry, and maps. Because our robots operate in diverse and challenging customer environments, you will architect solutions that are resilient to poor network conditions or complete disconnection. We are looking for an engineer with a background in graphics or gaming who understands the intricacies of rendering and state management at scale.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and Build Scalable Interfaces: Design and develop responsive, high-performance web and Android applications that serve as the primary interface for monitoring and controlling robotic fleets.
  • 3D & Map Rendering: Implement complex visualization tools in the browser and on mobile devices, rendering large-scale maps, point clouds, and 3D environments to visualize robot perception in real-time.
  • Resilient Networking: Engineer robust data synchronization layers that handle network-denied environments or intermittent connectivity, ensuring seamless operation and data integrity when robots go offline.
  • Full Stack Development: Work across the stack, with a heavy emphasis on TypeScript/JavaScript for frontend logic and integration with backend services and robotic APIs.
  • Performance Optimization: Profile and optimize rendering pipelines and application logic to ensure smooth performance on varied hardware, from high-end workstations to mobile field devices.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with robotics researchers, ML engineers, and infrastructure teams to define APIs and data formats that support rich, real-time visualization.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Strong proficiency in JavaScript/TypeScript
  • Experience with React and modern frontend development
  • Understanding of backend development principles
  • Knowledge of database design and management
  • Experience with containerization (Docker)
  • Familiarity with CI/CD principles
  • Basic understanding of cloud services

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong Industry Experience: A proven track record of building and shipping complex, user-facing products at scale.
  • Expert TypeScript/JavaScript Skills: Deep proficiency in modern JS ecosystems (React, Vue, or similar) and state management.
  • Android Development: Solid experience building native or high-performance cross-platform Android applications.
  • Graphics or Gaming Background: Experience with WebGL, Pixi, Three.js, OpenGL, or game engines (Unity/Unreal). You understand how to render 3D geometry and handle high-frame-rate visualizations in a browser or mobile context.
  • Indoor Mapping & Spatial Data: Experience rendering complex indoor environments and floor plans. Familiarity with spatial data structures and libraries suitable for indoor navigation and visualization, rather than traditional outdoor geospatial mapping.
  • Offline-First Architecture: Demonstrated ability to build systems that function reliably in network-constrained environments (CRDTs, local-first databases, optimistic UI updates).
  • Systems Thinking: Ability to understand the full flow of data from a robot sensor to a user's screen.
