SMI Security Services is currently hiring dependable, professional, and safety-conscious Security Officers for two positions at the Port of Miami.

On-Call Vessel Guard – Port of Miami

Position Type: On-Call / 32 Guaranteed Hours.
Pay Rate: $17.00 per hour.
Required: Valid Florida Class D Security License and TWIC Card.

Position Summary:
SMI Security Services is seeking professional Security Officers to work as Vessel Guards at the Port of Miami. This position is responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of vessels, crew members, cargo, and restricted port facilities.
The position offers a guaranteed minimum of 32 hours per week, with additional hours available based on operational needs.

Essential Duties:
  • Monitor and secure assigned vessels while docked at the Port of Miami.
  • Control access to vessels and restricted areas.
  • Verify identification and credentials.
  • Conduct security patrols and maintain a visible security presence.
  • Monitor for suspicious activity, security violations, and safety concerns.
  • Complete accurate activity logs and incident reports.
  • Communicate with vessel crew, port personnel, supervisors, and law enforcement when necessary.
  • Respond professionally to emergencies and security-related incidents.
  • Follow all SMI, client, Port of Miami, and applicable maritime security procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Valid Florida Class D Security Officer License.
  • Valid TWIC Card.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Reliable personal transportation.
  • Ability to pass required background screening.
  • Strong communication and observation skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Flexibility to workdays, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.

Physical Requirements:
Officers may be required to:
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Conduct outdoor patrols.
  • Work overnight hours.
  • Work in heat, rain, humidity, and other weather conditions.
  • Climb stairs or navigate different areas of the Port.
  • Remain alert and attentive throughout the entire shift.
  • Occasionally lift or move items within the limits of the assignment.
