Class and Grade
This is an on-site, part-time Career Service position offered on a term-by-term basis with an hourly pay rate of $17.65 for up to 20 hours per week.
Position Summary
The Part-Time Writing Tutor provides tutoring in English language, writing, and citation formatting to support student comprehension and academic skill development. This position assists in maintaining a welcoming, supportive, and scholarly tutoring environment and supports College academic success initiatives.

SJR State is a public college located in beautiful northeast Florida along the shores of the St. Johns River. With three campuses in Clay, Putnam, and St. Johns counties, SJR State serves nearly 10,000 students each year from among a population base of 600,000 in one of the fastest-growing areas of the country. Known for its natural beauty and quality of life, SJR State's service area includes St. Augustine, the nation's oldest city; Palatka, the "Gem City of the St. Johns;" and Orange Park, with roots going back to the Spanish period in Florida history.
Duties and Responsibilities
Tutoring & Student Support
โ€ข Provide tutoring in English language, writing, and citation formatting.
โ€ข Assist students with basic computer and academic technology skills.
โ€ข Maintain a supportive, welcoming, and professional tutoring environment.
โ€ข Communicate effectively with students regarding academic needs and progress.
โ€ข Refer students to additional academic support services as appropriate.
Center Operations & Support
โ€ข Maintain tutoring statistics and usage data as required.
โ€ข Report computer, printer, or software issues to the Academic Support Coordinator.
โ€ข Notify the Coordinator of needed office supplies and resources.
โ€ข Participate in departmental or College initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
โ€ข High school diploma or equivalent required.
โ€ข A.A./A.S. degree preferred.
โ€ข Demonstrated proficiency in writing and tutoring subject matter required. Including earning a minimum grade of B in relevant subjects at the college level.
โ€ข Tutoring or teaching experience preferred.
โ€ข Customer service experience preferred.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
โ€ข Strong written and verbal English communication skills.
โ€ข Ability to work professionally with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
โ€ข Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with College, state, and federal requirements.
โ€ข Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and implement departmental procedures.
โ€ข Ability to learn and use Microsoft Office and College-supported software systems.
โ€ข Ability to manage multiple tasks and adapt to changing priorities.
โ€ข Ability to work evenings and weekends as assigned.
โ€ข Ability to perform essential job functions independently after training.
