Starting Salary Range: $16.68-$21.23 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary: Tutor students through a variety of modalities and methods, refer students to other relevant resources, and assist with daily activities in the relevant resource center for Johnson County Community College (JCCC).

Required Qualifications:

  • Requires basic skill set and proficiency.
  • Conducts work assignments as directed.
  • Closely supervised with little latitude for independent judgment.
  • Successful completion of the Registered Nursing program.

Position Details: Job duties include but are not limited to:

  • Tutor students through drop-in, by-appointment, and/or semester-long tutoring (online and/or in-person) lower-level biology courses by helping students understand concepts clearly with the use of anatomical models and online resources and providing guidance with lab techniques including the use of microscope.
  • Refer students to appropriate resources within the relevant resource center and larger Academic Resource Center. 
  • Refer students to appropriate resources outside the relevant resource center/Academic Resource Center with consultation/direction from the relevant supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records, adhering to the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and keeping appropriate staff updated on student progress and problems.
  • Assist in the daily activities of the center, cover the front desk and checkout resources when needed , ensure students are checked in/out, help maintain a positive, clean, and organized center space and make sure students follow the policies of the center. 
  • Assist students with computer systems/software and help students troubleshoot computer problems as they impact tutoring operations. 
  • Use the appropriate scheduling system to manage and maintain tutoring schedules. 
  • Participate in mandatory center training and other campus-wide training opportunities as appropriate. 
  • Follow good work ethics by reporting on time at the center and staying the whole time according to the schedule and reporting absences in advance if possible; if not, in a timely manner so that alternate arrangements can be made .
