What is a tube tech?

A Tube Tech (Tube Technician) is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and installation of tubing systems, commonly in industrial settings like refineries, power plants, or manufacturing facilities. Their duties often include cleaning, inspecting, and replacing heat exchanger tubes, boiler tubes, or piping components. Tube Techs use specialized tools to ensure systems operate safely and efficiently. The role requires mechanical aptitude, attention to detail, and knowledge of industry safety standards.

What are the day-to-day responsibilities of a tube tech?

As a Tube Tech, your daily tasks often include cutting, measuring, bending, and installing tubing components according to specifications, as well as inspecting systems for leaks or wear. You'll typically work alongside engineers, welders, or other technicians, ensuring that tube assemblies meet safety and quality standards. You may also be responsible for troubleshooting issues, performing preventative maintenance, and documenting work performed. The work environment can be industrial or construction-focused, requiring adherence to safety protocols and collaboration with a larger project team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the tube tech position, and why are they important?

A Tube Tech (Tube Technician) typically requires mechanical aptitude, basic electrical knowledge, and experience with industrial piping or tubing systems to excel in the role. Familiarity with tools like tube benders, pressure testers, and possibly certifications such as OSHA safety or brazing certifications are common requirements. Job description

Do Epic Science
TAE is the world's first private fusion energy company, founded in 1998 to commercialize the cleanest, safest, most affordable, and sustainable form of carbon-free power. We are applying science and engineering to design transformational technologies. Whether it's harnessing fusion through the science of stars, making exponential leaps in power efficiency, or innovating medical care with a novel cancer treatment: We're turning the promise of science into reality.
We're looking for candidates who are passionate about realizing our mission: A future where all people have affordable access to reliable, abundant, and environmentally friendly fusion-generated electricity.
About The Role
TAE Technologies is developing radio frequency systems for a number of applications, including plasma heating on our current and next generation fusion devices and for plasma sources in auxiliary systems. The systems will span a variety of operational frequencies (e.g., 10 MHz to 10 GHz) and range of powers (e.g., 10s kW to 1 MW). The successful candidate will work closely with both the Engineering and Physics teams to develop these technologies from the design of the antennas, matching networks, transmission lines and instrumentation, to the procurement of component parts, to the commissioning and operation of the systems. He or she will work closely with RF physicists to design systems that meet stated requirements.
About You
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink or other applications used in the modelling of antennas, matching networks and transmission lines.
  • Experience with RF hardware from ~50 kW power levels and greater using solid state or vacuum tube technology
  • Amplitude, frequency and phase control of multiple sources.

  • Ability to present complex RF problems in simple and effective manner.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of the RF Team.
  • Accuracy and the ability to identify and correct shortcomings in proposals and designs.
  • Ability to rapidly gain new knowledge of RF systems and to identify new approaches.

Project Experience:
  • At least 5 years' experience with radio frequency systems in an industrial, scientific or broadcasting environment

Other Preferred Experience:
  • Interest in large science or R&D projects

Education
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline
  • M.S. in Electrical Engineering or related engineering discipline (preferred)

At TAE Technologies, we consider a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and job-related knowledge, training; licenses and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements depending on the position offered (Sr., Lead or Manager). The compensation range for these roles are $140,000 - $160,000 annually.
Imagination, skill, and will
We are a diverse team of over 500 engineers, scientists, professionals, Maxwell Prize winners, and big thinkers from more than 40 countries with a track record of delivering on the innovative ways science can lead humanity into a brighter era. We are not afraid to envision a future where fusion and science can transform our world.
What you'll get with us
* Generous benefits such as Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (K) with company match, paid vacation + sick time, companywide December holiday, wellness program, parental leave
* Payment rewards: For referring talent, novel research, and patents
* A collaborative environment: An organization where talents and interests can plug in to different groups throughout the organization
* Potential for equity participation
