Job description

Job Summary

The Laser Operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating laser-cutting equipment. Key responsibilities include identifying materials, nesting parts, setting up and operating the laser, removing skeletons, and counting and organizing finished parts. This position also performs basic preventive maintenance and supports production by operating other fabrication equipment as directed by the supervisor.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate laser-cutting equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Verify material type and thickness before beginning production.
  • Load programs according to the production schedule and adjust machine parameters to ensure quality and optimal equipment performance.
  • Review work orders, drawings, and specifications to confirm production requirements.
  • Monitor machine operation and inspect completed parts for accuracy and quality.
  • Remove parts and material skeletons from the cutting table.
  • Count, stack, label, and organize completed parts.
  • Operate and monitor the automated material storage system.
  • Perform preventive maintenance according to the established schedule.
  • Monitor consumable supplies and notify the supervisor when replenishment is needed.
  • Coordinate with the supervisor and maintenance team regarding equipment maintenance and repair needs.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
  • Work effectively in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
  • Demonstrate consistent attention to detail and remain focused on assigned tasks.
  • Operate other fabrication equipment or assist other machine operators as needed to support production.
  • Follow all applicable company policies, safety procedures, ISO standards, and OSHA requirements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Two or more years of experience operating Amada, TRUMPF TruDisk/TruFlow, Mazak, Cincinnati, or similar laser-cutting equipment preferred.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Previous experience working with sheet metal.
  • Knowledge of machine tooling, consumables, and basic equipment maintenance.
  • Ability to accurately read measuring tools and perform mathematical calculations, including fraction-to-decimal conversions.
  • Ability to identify and distinguish materials, including aluminum, carbon steel, stainless steel, copper, and brass.
  • Ability to read and interpret work orders, production schedules, and basic drawings or specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail, organization, and quality.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a production team.
