Job description

TITLE: Packaging Operator - Second Shift
LOCATION: Onsite in Alsip, IL
SHIFT & HOURS: 2nd Shift: Monday- Friday: 2:00 pm -10:30 pm
Hiring Hourly Rate: $23.18/Hr. (plus 5% Shift Differential)
2 Year Earning Potential Based on Continuous Learning Progression Pay
  • 6 Months - $23.97/hr.
  • 12 Months- $24.77/hr.
  • 24 Months- $25.56/hr.

Griffith Foods is hiring a Packaging Operator to join our Production Team. The Packaging Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the set-up, operation, adjustment, and clean-up of packaging equipment to contribute to the production of high-quality food products in compliance with company standards.
As a Packaging Operator your responsibilities will include:
  • Completes production reports documenting performance; enter transactions into RF equipment

  • Adjusts equipment during operation to ensure that quality and productivity standards are met

  • Dumps product into hopper for filling

  • Performs change-over by setting up auger, funnel, tubing and former for specific lines and/or product

  • Cleans and washes line and equipment, and cleans work area and equipment at end of shift

  • Load and set film or units for form fill machines

  • Reports any product quality deviations or mechanical failures to maintenance or management.

  • Adherence to all department procedures and GMP's, including following precise instructions.

Qualified candidates will have:
  • Ability to regularly lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds throughout the shift

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently, including the ability to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence, and memos; ability to write simple correspondence; and the ability to communicate with individuals and small groups.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Working knowledge or the ability to gain knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics AX and RedZone software.

  • Working overtime as needed throughout the week, up to and including Saturday work.

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods during the shift

  • Comfortable working with and around allergens and cleaning chemicals
  • Must be able to work onsite in Alsip location

Candidates must currently be at least 18 years of age AND possess unrestricted authorization to work in the United States. Work visa sponsorship is not available for this role.
What will set you apart:
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

  • 3 months experience and/or training in a USDA regulated manufacturing environment

  • Experience operating packaging equipment.

  • Familiarity with food safety requirements.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk to communicate and listen effectively. This will require both office and plant environments. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Safely navigate stairs and ladders
Environmental Concerns:
While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud; hearing protection is required in designated areas. Dust and odor present in environment.
