Position Summary Drive and operate vehicles to pick up, load, transport and dispose of deceased animals and various cargo throughout the City. Perform basic preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles to include but not limited to checking tire pressure and fluids. Operate other auxiliary equipment frequently attached to trucks.

Mustbe able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without areasonable accommodation. Drive and operate vehicles to transport various cargos to assigned city destinations; load and unload cargo to and from vehicle. Load trucks with deceased animals that may have zoonotic disease, toxic materials, heavy machinery, mineral aggregates, bulky trash, or pipes, or; shovel dirt, asphalt, trash, and debris.
Perform preventive maintenance on assigned equipment to include checking tire pressure, fluids, wiper blades, and brake lights. Monitor needed oil change and needed maintenance of vehicle. Coordinate with City fleet management for necessary maintenance.
Operate all attachments to transport vehicles including hoists, drums, and other auxiliary equipment frequently attached to trucks. Make daily operation and maintenance reports at end of work shift. SUPPLEMENTAL FUNCTIONS: May direct and coordinate the activities of two or more laborers in order to accomplish assigned tasks.
Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints. Perform a variety of general maintenance duties. Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements Education directly related to the minimum requirements below may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. High school diploma or GED; and Two (2) years transport vehicle operation experience. Experience with handling deceased animals and vehicle maintenance experience preferred.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain within ninety (90) days from date of hire. Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within 6 months from hire date. Working Conditions Environmental: Field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to dust, noise, heavy construction equipment, deceased animals, zoonotic diseases, toxic materials; work in inclement weather conditions.
Physical: Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, sitting, standing, bending, kneeling, and climbing; moderate to heavy lifting; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
