Job description

POSITION SUMMARY
The Associate supports the senior members of the investment team in the implementation and oversight of Trinity's diversified portfolio. This role serves as an individual contributor with meaningful responsibility for monitoring managers, leading underwriting workstreams, contributing to asset class and portfolio construction discussions, improving reporting and operating processes, and presenting analysis to internal stakeholders. The Associate is expected to develop deep knowledge of one or more asset classes, exercise sound judgment in manager evaluation and portfolio monitoring, and represent Trinity professionally with external managers, advisors, and peer institutions.
The pay range for this position is $140,000 to $155,000. Please upload both Resume and Cover Letter to be considered.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Monitor existing investment managers and broader portfolio characteristics across all asset classes, with eventual primary responsibility and increasing oversight of many managers.

  • Support investment decision-making by conducting advanced quantitative and qualitative due diligence on prospective and existing managers, including performance analysis, portfolio fit assessment, reference work, and memo drafting.

  • Proactively map and help manage the underwriting timeline from start to finish, ensuring key diligence questions, risks, and follow-up items are addressed efficiently.

  • Develop a detailed understanding of investment rationale, key risks, and legal or structural considerations; identify material outliers from market norms and propose potential mitigants.
  • Perform nuanced market and capital-markets research related to assigned asset classes and communicate implications for Trinity's portfolio construction and manager pipeline.
  • Support and lead mission investments, collaborating with colleagues in Philanthropies and the Investment team.
  • Oversee the preparation of regular reporting and quarterly investment committee materials; independently create own IC materials, review and assess the quality of others' materials, and lead presentation of selected sections to inform decision-making.
  • Create and improve endowment reporting, including performance reporting, exposure reporting, risk analysis, and broader portfolio characteristic analysis across asset classes.

  • Create, maintain, and refine financial models to support strategic planning, manager evaluation, liquidity analysis, and portfolio exposure analysis.

  • Participate in industry conferences, manager meetings, and investor events; maintain market maps of relevant strategies and report back actionable opportunities and observations.

  • Lead projects to improve internal investment processes, reporting quality, operating discipline, and data integrity.
  • Adhere to confidentiality rules and all Trinity Church policies, procedures, mission, and Ways of Being.

  • Assume other related responsibilities and special projects as required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ACTIVITIES
  • Strong knowledge of one or more asset classes in the relevant region and globally, with the ability to discuss drivers and market developments credibly with the team and the Investment Committee.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate, select, monitor, and in some cases recommend termination of external investment managers using both qualitative and quantitative analysis.

  • Strong investment judgment, including the ability to prioritize opportunities, identify key risks, and allocate time and resources efficiently across a broad opportunity set.

  • Advanced financial modeling, portfolio analysis, and performance attribution capabilities; familiarity with liquidity analysis, exposure analysis, and scenario-based modeling.

  • Ability to articulate key commercial and legal terms in investment documentation and identify material issues, outliers, and alignment considerations.

  • Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills, including preparation of investment memoranda, committee materials, and concise investment recommendations.
  • Strong organizational and project-management skills with the ability to manage multiple diligence processes, deadlines, and reporting cycles simultaneously.
  • High level of professionalism and ability to represent Trinity effectively with managers, consultants, industry peers, and at external events.
  • Demonstrated initiative, intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and a collaborative, low-ego approach in a lean investment office environment; able to run analyses independently, synthesize and present conclusions clearly, and operate with a high level of detail orientation.
  • Demonstrated background and judgment to step into broader portfolio, underwriting, and reporting responsibilities when needed; has done so in prior roles and/or can learn new operational processes quickly and execute with speed.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND CREDENTIALS
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, mathematics, or a related field required; MBA, CFA, or other advanced degree/certification preferred.

  • 4-7 years of relevant experience in institutional investment management, endowments and foundations, pensions, OCIO, asset management, consulting, or related allocator and asset management roles.

  • Experience working with institutional-quality investment data, reporting systems, and analytical tools; strong proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word required. Knowledge of Caissa, FactSet and Northern Trust preferred.
  • Strong AI skillset and comfort using and integrating AI based tools into investment processes.
  • Strong understanding of public equities preferred.
