Position Purpose

The President of Mercy Fitzgerald and Saint Francis Hospitals (Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic South (THMA South)) is responsible and accountable for executive leadership and operational direction to the Regional Health Ministry (RHM) that consists of the two hospitals and communities they serve within the regional operating structure. As a member of the Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic executive team, the President actively engages in the creation and execution of strategies that enhance Trinity Health's impact within Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic South. As the accountable executive for THMA South, this leader is responsible for the development and implementation of strategic and operating plans that align with regional objectives, reflect community needs, achieve organizational goals and advance the philosophy, mission and vision of Trinity Health. Fosters an environment that promotes and ensures excellence in the care experience and operational efficiencies within a variety of delivery settings. As the THMA South executive leader, the President provides leadership and guidance to the Hospitals' senior leadership team, enabling collaborative planning, innovation and decision-making.

The President creates an organizational culture that celebrates diversity and a community of committed persons serving the healing ministry with focus on competencies that support values of respect, social justice, care of the poor and underserved, compassion and excellence. Ensures effective governance and establishes a participative management and engaged organizational climate that develops and maintains talent and inclusiveness within THMA South and throughout the region.

Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital is a 178-bed teaching hospital located in Darby, Pa., which offers advanced acute care services in Delaware County and Southwest Philadelphia.

Healthy Villages are communities of varying scale created at the intersection of neighborhood planning and community health. Through the coordination and integration of investments and services, Healthy Villages focus on improving quality of life and enriching the vitality of the neighborhoods while protecting their heritages, histories and residents.

Healthy Villages are located in economically challenged neighborhoods and are designed to enhance the traditional safety net hospital model. The partners are typically organized and engaged according to investments in the Social Influencers of Health:

• Economic stability(e.g., meaningful jobs and careers)

• Safe neighborhoods(e.g., housing, transportation, parks, retail services)

• Education(from literacy to higher education and everything in-between)

• Food security(including good nutrition)

• Social support(e.g., childcare, adult daycare)

• Health care(e.g., emergency services, short-term stays including observation beds, post-acute care such as behavioral health and skilled nursing, primary care, care management and access to quality specialty care when needed)

Trinity Health: Mid-Atlantic and Holy Cross Health Maryland

To leverage skill and scale and expand services across a broader geography, in May 2024, Trinity Health combined the responsibility for its Mid-Atlantic Region (Pennsylvania and Delaware) and its Holy Cross Health in Maryland Region under one Regional Health Ministry (RHM) leadership team. Combined, these two regions have six hospitals, as well as, associated clinics, medical offices, specialized facilities, affiliated institutions, and foundations, representing approximately 10,400 colleagues across three states, with approximately $1.7B in total revenue. These facilities and colleagues serve together in the spirit of the Gospel as a compassionate and transforming healing presence within their communities.

Essential Functions

Cultural Alignment: Knows, understands, incorporates and demonstrates the Trinity Health mission, vision, and values in leadership behaviors, practices and decisions.

Regional Executive Leadership: Serves as a member of the regional executive leadership team charged with the creation of regional strategies that reflect the needs of the market area and the priorities of Trinity Health. Collaborates with regional executives, system office colleagues and other RHM Presidents to achieve RHM, regional and system objectives. Seeks out, embraces and capitalizes on the advantages of regional and system resources, diversity, scale, replication opportunities, people and intellectual capital. Shares accountability for the achievement of regional performance metrics, including regional development.

Region Health Ministry (RHM) Direction: Responsible and accountable for executive leadership and directly supervises RHM senior management team ensuring the achievement of financial, operational and strategic plans with a focus on excellence in personalized care in a variety of delivery settings. Champions change, operational improvement and growth initiatives - seeks out and employs effective change management and performance improvement techniques and tools.

Regional Health Ministry (RHM) Accountability and Responsibility: The RHM Presidents report to and are accountable to the Regional President and CEO. The RHM Presidents are accountable for the selection, evaluation and overall success of the senior leadership team within assigned RHM.

Strategic Thinking: Leads the formation of the RHM vision and strategic plan and the development and achievement of its goals and objectives. Ensures RHM vision and operational plan are aligned with Regional and system strategies and objectives. Oversees the analysis of community needs and the development of supportive programs and services, especially for the poor, populations at risk and the underserved.

Clinical Delivery: Facilitates the development and implementation of integrated clinical service delivery platforms within assigned RHM and ensures integration and alignment within the region. Champions physician alignment strategies that lead to growth within the RHM and regional affiliations. Ensures the coordination of actions and realization of service efficiencies that drive increased quality and responsiveness to marketplace needs.

Mission and Diversity: Develops and sustains an organizational culture that celebrates a diverse community of committed persons serving the healing ministry with focus on developing competencies that support values of respect, social justice, care of the poor and underserved, compassion and excellence.

Talent Development: Mentors and develops the RHM senior leadership team, fostering achievement of goals and objectives, high performing leadership practices, collaboration, innovation, and interdependence. Participates in regional succession planning and supports talent development initiatives within the region. Employs participative management and leadership approaches that optimize organization resources and talent effectiveness and organizational learning.

Community: Leads applicable governance process and works with community leaders to advance the mission of the hospital's strategic and philanthropic plans. Actively participates in associations and groups within the region. Establishes and maintains relationships with key community and state leaders to facilitate the accomplishment of regional and system goals and objectives.

Regulatory and Compliance: Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, standards of conduct, ethics, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must possess a thorough knowledge of healthcare management principles and techniques as normally obtained through a Master's Degree in Health Administration or a related field and a minimum of ten (10) years of management experience, to include but not limited to experience as the Chief Operating Officer and/or President/Chief Executive Officer of an integrated health care entity.

• Advanced business and executive leadership skills to develop new or enhance existing clinical and operational strategies, business plans, policies and programs.

• Extensive knowledge and understanding of current health care trends and practices.

• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and business acumen

• Must be able to operate effectively in a collaborative, shared leadership environment.

• Ability to identify, create and foster an organizational culture that is supportive of and builds upon the Trinity Health faith-based traditions and vision for a healing ministry.
